Three Quick Observations:

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-30-04

1. I can't remember reading a novel with a more transparent agenda.
2. Mr. Crichton is one bright man. As such he is in a unique position to write enjoyable fiction with a high degree of technical/cutting-edge scientific detail. Not only do I feel like this book doesn't carry his singular banner but is written as a script for a mass-market appeal over-the-top action film (probably a made-for-TV film at that).
3. I will probably not be able to hear a broadcast or read an article about the environment without administering a higher degree of scrutiny again--which was probably his point.

Could have been good

The book is 1/4 to 1/3 about deconstructing commonly held beliefs about fitness and exercise (the valuable part) and the balance is devoted to weaving an autobiographical narrative about her love of intense exercise. Although the narrative makes it more readable, I didn't buy it to learn all about her individual exercise passions and habits--I wanted to know about what's true and false about fitness. Too bad she didn't stay on point.
