Historia
My name's Griz. I've never been to school, I've never had friends, and in my whole life I've not met enough people to play a game of football. My parents told me how crowded the world used to be, before all the people went away. But we were never lonely on our remote island. We had each other and our dogs. Then the thief came.

A great adventure story about family and survival
Revisado: 12-02-24
I love post apocalyptic fiction, and this delivers quite well. The narration is good and the story is solid. If I had one knock to it, it is that you can see the surprises coming - but I won't spoil it for you.

Historia
Doom Guy: Life in First Person is the long-awaited autobiography of gaming’s original rock star and the cocreator of DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein—some of the most recognizable and important titles in video game history. Credited with the invention of the first-person shooter, a genre that continues to dominate the market today, he is gaming royalty. Told in remarkable detail, a byproduct of his hyperthymesia, Romero recounts his storied career.

Excellent book, read by the author
Revisado: 09-17-24
I was alive and involved in computers during this time period, but the web was in its infancy and we mostly relied on BBS and newsgroup gossip about what was going on at id. This book lays it all out and, while it is from Romero's perspective, it fills in a lot of blanks. More than once, I found myself saying "oh, that's why that all happened".
Being read by Romero himself is merely the cherry on top. It feels very much like sitting down with an interesting friend over coffee where he answers the question "So, what have you been up to?"

Historia
The Ultimate History of the '80s Teen Movie goes behind the scenes of a genre where cult hits mingled with studio blockbusters, where giants like Spielberg and Coppola rubbed shoulders with baby-faced first-timers, and where future superstars Sean, Demi, and Tom all got their big break. Music, comedy, and politics all play a part in the surprisingly complex history of the '80s teen movie. And while the films might have been aimed primarily at adolescents, the best tackle universal issues and remain relevant to all ages.

A fun, behind the scenes look at your favorite 80's films.
Revisado: 09-17-24
As someone who likes films and has a soft spot for 80's films in particular, I enjoined this peek "behind the curtain".
If I had one criticism, however, it would be that the author spends the first chapter apologizing for how the movies haven't aged well and many things are inappropriate when viewed through a modern lens. While not inaccurate, it definitely starts the book on a down note.

A raw, personalized memoir of the 80's, told like it was.
Revisado: 09-17-24
I'm 13 years younger than Smith, but it still resonated strongly with me. As a result, I very much enjoyed it. It delves heavily into what was common for my school experiences in the 80's - dodging authority, chasing girls and popularity.
The performance gets a knock because, despite being read well by the author, there were some takes which should have been edited out and were left in.
His choice to include some of his journal entries was also a little cringey, but that may just be because they are so raw and emotional as to make one uncomfortable.
Overall, this is worth your time.

Historia
In sparkling Night City, a ragtag group of strangers have just pulled off a heist, robbing a convoy transporting a mysterious container belonging to Militech. The only thing the group has in common is that they were blackmailed into participating in the heist—and they have no idea just how far their mysterious employer's reach goes, or the purpose of the artifact they stole.

Very Cyberpunk!
- De Tyler Houston en 08-10-23
An excellent CP2077 book - I want more!
Revisado: 10-14-23
I have loved cyberpunk both as a genre and as a game since I first read Neuromancer in the 90's and started playing Cyberpunk 2020. I picked up and played though the 1.3 version of the CDPR video game.
This book is firmly centered in that world. You can taste the grit, smell the desperation. It's one of those books where you're sad when it's over, and want another one.
If I have one criticism, it's that, by the middle of the book, you know what is really going on - not that it stops you from watching the impending train wreck.
It's Cyberpunk. There are no happy endings, and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep.
