I love the whole idea of a progressive Victorian age. Women are doctors, people can love whomever they choose and God is a woman. Pair all of that with a slow-burn mystery romance and I call that a win. I can't wait for the next book.

Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

An absolutely wonderful YA Novel except...
Revisado: 03-04-23
I abhor love triangles, and I mean they irk me to my very core. I think they are unoriginal and predictable and just make the girl look bad in the end. For that reason alone, I will not be continuing with the series, but if that is not an issue for you, then by all means, buy this book. The narrator was good, if not a bit excitable, but I think that's what she was going for. The overall story is unique, and I love how the Arthurian legend is woven into the story. This will make a great movie or TV series one day.

The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Heed the Warnings!
Revisado: 03-01-23
I went into this book fully prepared for what I was getting into... or so, I thought. I've always had a pension for darker themes. It's something that has plagued me my whole life and had me questioning my sanity on more than one occasion.
First off, I was excited to get into this book. I have seen multiple recs on instagram about how the villain gets the girl and that in and of itself is intriguing. When I sought the book out for myself and saw the warnings, I was even more intrigued, and once I started, the stalking part was thrilling. I felt all the emotions right along Addy: the excitement, the trepidation, the constant war within oneself to fight the urge to give in to your deepest darkest desires.
Once it got past the stalking however, it took an even darker turn. Now I know this is entirely my fault because I saw the warnings, and thought I was ready for the ride, but there is a part in this book that actually brought me to tears and I didn't even realize it until they were running down my cheeks. The thrill and excitement had passed, and I was just left mad and revolted.
Apparently, I like my villains a little less into actual rape and that brings me to one of the most aggravating parts of this whole book. Zade saves children and women from sex trafficking and various other horrible situations, all while being blind to the fact that he is literally a rapist. He tries to justify it by saying she is actually enjoying it, and though that might be the case, it's a long-standing rule that enjoyment does not equal consent. Our bodies react in their own way to situations that are beyond our control.
I might not have been so bothered by it if when she questions him about how he is a huge hypocrite, he just smirks at her like it's no big deal. Umm, hello Pot, meet Kettle. Now I'm writing this review while only being a little over half way through the book, so I dont know if the topic is breached again because lord I hope so, but I am not sure I can stomach continuing through to the end.
All that being said, the narrators do a wonderful job, and the writing is superb. If you decide to delve into this book, just be warned. If rape is not your thing, do not waste your credit.

Historia
When Robin Ellacott opens an unexpected delivery, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but just as alarmed. He suspects that four people from his past could be responsible - and any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike has essentially ruled out, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men.

Brilliant, but could use some content warnings.
Revisado: 09-15-22
Firstly, I have thoroughly enjoyed the C.B Strike series so far. I love the budding potential between Robin and Strike and how their relationship doesn't hinder the storyline at all. This book was no exception. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but Career of Evil stands out from the first two books for many reasons. Mainly in the violence against women.
I feel like they should definitely add some content warnings to the description just so everyone knows what they are getting into. Did this ruin the story for me? Absolutely not. It just kept building the suspense and the need to get to the end so the killer could be caught and once I got there I was overwhelmingly satisfied.
The narrator is wonderful at differentiating between male and female and all the different accents. I never had to guess who was talking. Every individual was clear and distinct. He is definitely a favorite of mine. Basically, if you have enjoyed the series so far, give this one a go as well. Just be warned, if violence against women is a deciding factor for you. I'd skip this one.

I love a good whodunit and "The Cuckoo Calling" did not disappoint. I also watched the series.and was very pleasantly surprised at how much i enjoyed it. The narrator was wonderful, he did a very good job of keeping the different voices distinct enough that you knew who was talking. I plan to purchase " The Silkworm" after submitting this review.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

5 Stars all around!
Revisado: 08-04-22
This was one of the best books I've listened to in a while. I was completely engrossed through the whole thing. I didn't even have to finish the sample; two minutes in and I was hitting the button to use my credit.
The story, the narrator's; everything was perfectly executed. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I had a pretty good idea who the mystery person was about half way through and I ended up being correct, but the why wasn't revealed until the end and I'm glad I was wrong about the why. Overall, I very highly recommend this book. If you need a good solid mystery to listen to; this is the one.

If the author wrote a hundred books with these characters, I would listen to every one of them. I am so sad it's over. I haven't listened to something I've enjoyed this much in a long time. Please if you come across these gems, do yourself a favor and buy them. If you're anything like me, you won't be disappointed.

I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. It's hard to find fantasy books with a WOC heroine that are also will written and executed. This book is laugh out loud funny, exciting and full of adventure. I highly recommend and am about to start the second book as soon as I'm done writing this review.
