My companion for a whole weekend
Revisado: 11-04-17
This audiobook kept me company over an entire weekend as I boxed stuff and changed apartments. I often found myself stopping in the middle of packing, staring into nothing, hanging onto the narrator's every word, while holding the object to be packed midair. It was that enjoyable!
There are many layers to the conspiracy and I loved the characters!

1081. William's bloody conquest is over and Britain is under Norman rule. But one bastion of resistance remains: Wales. A divided land where brother fights brother and kings battle for power. The English use this to further their own ends, and while one king is tempted by an offer he cannot resist, the others wage war over long-forgotten feuds.

Entertaining historical fiction
Revisado: 10-29-17
This book was a pleasant surprise. It was a clear and informing historical narrative which took me to wind-swept Wales. Why worry about Game of Thrones when our own history has had plenty of intrigue, love and war?
While it was possible to get to know the characters from their actions and speech, I would have liked to delve deeper into them and explore them more. This wish is recurrent in the genre, and not only in this particular book.
I enjoyed the narrator, and even his feminine voices.

Mike Tower is a circuit rider, a traveling preacher charged with tending the lawless souls of the Wild West. Utterly fearless, he carries no gun, only the word of the Lord - and the shadowy mystery of a secret past. Sharpshooting, hard-drinking Bird Hitchcock yields to no man, but a woman's gotta work. And so she hires herself out as the circuit rider's gun hand, protecting him along the treacherous trail from Missouri westward. As they ride, a new mission rises out of the dust of the sin-soaked land.

A gem
Revisado: 10-29-17
I can't say Western is my favorite style, but I'm always down for a good story and this was a great one. Characters were interesting and diverse, with very different perpectives, attitudes, and reactions to events.
Description is concise and you won't spend precious time listening to the colors of the sunset, the size of dust particles, and the number of leaves on trees.
It was originally released in short written episodes, which were then made into a book. You can still get the feeling of "what will be next?", but without having to wait for it. Super enjoyable!
Narration was also top-notch.

Historia
The story of a student who went to extraordinary lengths - including living in a van on a campus parking lot - to complete his education without sacrificing his financial future. In a frank and self-deprecating voice, memoirist Ken Ilgunas writes about the existential terror of graduating from college with $32,000 in student debt. Inspired by Thoreau, Ilgunas set himself a mission: get out of debt as soon as humanly possible. To that end, he undertook an extraordinary three-year transcontinental journey.

Interesting perspective
Revisado: 10-29-17
Although it sounded preachy at times, there was much to learn and interesting food for thought along the book.
While he admits the fragility of his lifestyle and that it's not for everyone, even for people "in the rat race" it can provide for an interesting read/listen.
Nick Podehl is an excellent narrator, and can read recipes and still make them sound interesting!

I have a huge regret...
Revisado: 10-28-17
...and my regret is that I came across this author only in this book, without looking for the previous books in the Rho Agenda universe.
That took a sizeable chunk from my fun, since there were many references and character relationships I (obviously) did not understand.
However, even considering that, I was able to follow the story decently and enjoy the time spent. I'll probably re-start the series from the actual beginning, and enjoy it as it was planned to be.

I'll take Jeff Wheeler over George Martin anyday
Revisado: 10-28-17
Seriously. While I do think George Martin is a talented writer and world-builder, I think Wheeler writes his characters fantastically. They're realistic: they feel and fear and love and overcome obstacles. Better yet: there's no gratuitous sex and profanity so yay for that!
Trynne has become one of my favorite heroines of all time, and Kate Rudd voices her perfectly.

The next generation; Arthurian influences
Revisado: 10-28-17
While still in the same series, this book starts another trilogy following Owen's daughter into the next generation of intrigue and machination!
It's possible to see the influence of the King Arthur legend in the story, and that makes it all the more enjoyable.
The writer has very visibly improved his craft, comparing to the first book in the series or to the Muirwood series - which is also excellent.
Kate Rudd keeps on being awesome!

Kate Rudd is one of my favorite narrators
Revisado: 10-28-17
This is an excellent fantasy series. There is no simpering romance, but there is love. There is conflict, conflicted choices, loyalty and strategy.
And there's also Kate Rudd, who narrates wonderfully. She also narrates the Muirwood series by the same author, which I'll be sure to check since apparently it ties a little bit to this storyline.

Amazing performance
Revisado: 10-28-17
Narration by a full cast was what got me interested in the first place, actually. Each chapter is narrated by a different character and all are related to the main story.
Main concerns, plot-wise, are that it takes very long for things to start making sense, and that there is sexual abuse/assault which I do not like to read/listen to so descriptively (as in, not hard data but actual description).
On the bright side, the multiple perspectives and the mystery/sci-fi aspect would make this an excellent TV/Netflix series!

Aimed at a younger public, but still enjoyable
Revisado: 10-21-17
While I can see this book being more fun to middle schoolers, at 27 I cherished the moments I spent listening to the wonderful Gerard Doyle telling the story of a boy cursed to become a leprechaun.
This book has a fairy tale feel to it, but it's a fresh take on the folklore. I will be sure to check her other book that covers mermaids. What can I say, I'm young at heart and it the story was well told and entertaining! :)
