Great storyline
Revisado: 03-10-25
well written, well paced story with interesting characters. Though it had war scenes, it was not overly bloody. I liked how honor and respect played an important role in the story. Nice also to have no swearing and bad language used, just great storytelling. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. How will they overcome the challenges they have been dealt?

Like story
Revisado: 09-02-22
I enjoyed the story, but the female narrator grated on me. I started the book several times but was unable to go on because of the narrative. I finally decided to push on through and was glad I did because I enjoyed the story despite the female narrator. Her voice was very child !ike, breathy, and too whiney for me.

Great prequel
Revisado: 09-01-22
It was wonderful to hear how the relationship between Moraine and Lan developed and led to their joint quest. The training of Moraine was also interesting as well as some of the history of the tower. I disagree with other readers that this tale should be read after reading other books in the series. It can be read either way and enjoyed. The narrator did a good job presenting all the characters. It was hard to put down.

When a woman in Bel Air dies of a rattlesnake bite, the case doesn’t seem to fit the usual purview of LAPD’s Special Cases Unit. But Carrie Holder was no ordinary LA woman. She was a member of the city's latest cult, the Church of the Gate, which counts Hollywood's movers and shakers among its devotees. Investigating the cult's secrets takes Detective Michael Gideon, his German shepherd K-9 partner, Sirius, and pit bull rescue Emily across Los Angeles's canyons, neighborhoods, and movie studio lots - but all the while, an even darker threat looms closer.
