Historia
In 1307, as they struggled to secure their last strongholds in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Templars fell afoul of the vindictive and impulsive king of France. On Friday, October 13, hundreds of brothers were arrested en masse, imprisoned, tortured, and disbanded amid accusations of lurid sexual misconduct and heresy. They were tried by the Vatican in secret proceedings. But were they heretics or victims of a ruthlessly repressive state?

Informative, well researched. Nicely narrated.

I enjoyed this audio book. Lots of background describing how the Templars came to become so powerful. Even more interesting to me personally, was how they came to be dismantled. Very enjoyable narration. Very violent storyline.

Historia
In 1942 one young social worker, Irena Sendler, was granted access to the Warsaw Ghetto as a public health specialist. While she was there, she began to understand the fate that awaited the Jewish families who were unable to leave. Soon she reached out to the trapped families, going from door to door and asking them to trust her with their young children. She started smuggling children out of the walled district, convincing her friends and neighbors to hide them.

Unlimited Courage and Sacrifice
Revisado: 12-18-20
As I heard this story unfold I discovered a hero and her network in WW2 Poland growing ever larger in courage and sacrifice as they resisted the Nazi’s and saved lives. She, and her comrades are worth knowing. Unforgettable.

Historia
Distinguished New York attorney James D. Zirin presents Trump's lengthy litigation history as an indication of his character and morality, and his findings are chilling: if you partner with Donald Trump, you will probably wind up litigating with him. If you enroll in his university or buy one of his apartments, chances are you will want your money back. If you are a woman and you get too close to him, you may need to watch your back. If you make a deal with him, you had better get it in writing. If you are a lawyer, an architect, or even his dentist, you'd better get paid up front.

Filing legal actions are pure fun, plain and simple...
Revisado: 11-16-20
...according to D. Trump. Author writes about Trump using the filing of suits, counter suits, and threatening to use them to get business and personal leverage. I have read anything about anybody else who is so prone to taking complaints to court. Well researched legal episodes about the various periods in D. Trumps life and how he has engineered personal publicity from court filings. Subject matter will probably be very relevant after he leaves the Presidency. Highly enjoyable.

Historia
American economic policy ranks as something between bad and disgraceful. As leading economist Alan S. Blinder argues, a crucial cultural divide separates economic and political civilizations. Economists and politicians often talk - and act - at cross purposes: politicians typically seek economists' "advice" only to support preconceived notions, not to learn what economists actually know or believe. Politicians naturally worry about keeping constituents happy and winning elections. Some are devoted to an ideology.

An important description of how we get better economic policy
Revisado: 06-22-20
The author has served in Washington as an economic advisor and shares much of what he has seen regarding economic policy implementation by politicians and technocrats. Taxation, global trade, income inequality and many more issues are covered from an economists perspective, but the implementation of policy in many cases is flawed and counter productive. Very glad author wrote this book. A great message for those who care about our country and want all the best for its people.

IMO, a perfect book
Revisado: 05-08-20
The author picked a very impactful person in world history. The story was thoughtful about the life of Genghis Khan including his motivations, strengths and innovations as a leader. Narrator was superb and never got in the way of enjoying the book. Not your book if desciptions of violence are not your cup of tea.

Historia
Holmes twice escaped death as a young Union officer in the Civil War when musket balls barely missed his heart and spinal cord. He lived ever after with unwavering moral courage, scorn for dogma, and an insatiable intellectual curiosity. Named to the Supreme Court by Theodore Roosevelt at age 61, he served for nearly three decades, writing a series of famous, eloquent, and often dissenting opinions that would prove prophetic in securing freedom of speech, protecting the rights of criminal defendants, and ending the Court's reactionary resistance to social and economic reforms.

Historia
From the perilous ocean crossing to the shared bounty of the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim settlement of New England has become enshrined as our most sacred national myth. Yet, as best-selling author Nathaniel Philbrick reveals in his spellbinding new book, the true story of the Pilgrims is much more than the well-known tale of piety and sacrifice; it is a 55-year epic that is at once tragic, heroic, exhilarating, and profound.

Author uses a lot of language from our English ancestors which varies considerably from US english today. Strong empathy with our native American ancestors, and use of both some words in their native tongues well as English make this an excellent book to listen to. I loved it immensely and am glad I know more about the first 80 years of our history.

In the tradition of Agent Zigzag comes this breathtaking biography, as fast-paced and emotionally intuitive as the very best spy thrillers, which illuminates an unsung hero of the French Resistance during World War II - Robert de La Rochefoucald, an aristocrat turned anti-Nazi saboteur - and his daring exploits as a résistant trained by Britain's Special Operations Executive.

Story about an aggressive young Frenchman, who wanted to help rid France of German Occupiers during WW2. He escaped from France early to get trained as a Resistance fighter in England. Parachute drops, eluding capture and causing damage to German facilities were all part of this real life story. Well written and narrated. Lots of background information about the Resistance, German counter espionage agents, and life in France. Tour de force!

A life lived demanding the US Constitution be for ALL. Told to you in a style like an Uncle sharing stories over coffee.
Revisado: 09-30-18
I loved the style that Greg wrote this book. Every topic has a title describing what is to come. What follows is a very conversational and heart felt narrative of black history. He lifts the spirit by insisting (through multiple examples) that generations of black people have contributed greatly to the USA. I loved his passion for justice, greatness and the goodness in people. He tells the truth about savagery of slavery and racism with an empathy that is vivid, and an earnestness that a favorite teacher has. In the end, I feel honored by listening to Uncle Greg.

Historia
Only 22, Emma learned to bake at the side of a master, Ezra Kuchen, the village baker since before she was born. Apprenticed to Ezra at 13, Emma watched with shame and anger as her kind mentor was forced to wear the six-pointed yellow star on his clothing. She was likewise powerless to help when they pulled Ezra from his shop at gunpoint, the first of many villagers stolen away and never seen again. In the years that her sleepy coastal village has suffered under the enemy, Emma has silently, stealthily fought back.

Resisting the Occupiers in Many Ways, Fascinating Description
Revisado: 01-11-18
The author writes so clearly about the thoughts of a young French woman living in Occupied France, you quickly sense her distain for the Nazi's. Her inventiveness and persistence, make her a formidable asset helping those in her village survive, while the Germans plunder the land and people to feed the war machine. Fascinating characters surround her, some with great courage, some not. I loved that a few of the characters close to her had disabilities, they were effected by the occupation, and played important roles in the resistance itself. Bravo!Wonderful narrator added beautifully to the story with her ability to to make French speaking characters sound delightful to my ear.
