Uninteresting story read by an insipid voice

How anyone associated with one of the foundational rock bands of their time could have taken almost nothing of interest away from the experience was by itself a shock. The fact that they matched a dreary voice to read the account as if it were a pending act before Parliament was equally astonishing. Only because I am an equal fan of biography and music was I able to make it all the way through the end. I do believe that the Wikipedia page for Mr Elliot is a better bit of reading.

I haven't walked the Camino. I don't know Andrew. I didn't even know he had a son. But after listening, I feel like I've walked with Andrew and Sam, made friends with the people they met, and seen up close the places they visited along the way. What a great journey.

This was an unexpectedly entertaining read about a person who turns out to be much more interesting than the superficial perspective we get as outsiders to his career and person. I'm glad he took the time to share and to do it in such a thoughtful and inspiring manner.

Incredible look at Milgram, but . . .

. . . the author harbors a permeating bias that causes a pervasive undercurrent of demonization of Milgram, his work, his character, and his conclusions. I'm all for unbiased analysis, but this went far beyond that. It is a hit job. It's also an extended opinion piece masquerading as a serious consideration of Milgram. Full of conjecture, non-sequiturs and unsupported conclusions, it's little more than gas-lighting. Nonetheless, if you have a strong sense of facts and can be on constant alert for the misleading, then the book contains just enough factual and historical tidbits that can be strung together to form a reasonable understanding of the man, the experiment, and the latter's meaning for society. In other words, if you can resist the undue influence of the author, then you, like the teacher subjects in the Milgram experiments, can form your own conclusions.

This is more of a top-ten list of things to think about if becoming a counselor and could have been delivered in five minutes or less as there was no backup explaining the "how" or "why" behind the list of recommendations. But they are decent points so they are appreciated. Be advised the last two minutes are a list of other self-published books by the author.

I appreciate the good ideas, especially the boom cards. Wish there was more substance and less selling of things for money.

This is a very important topic and I especially appreciate the reference to the ASCA "five why's."

MCTS sounds like a great program that makes a difference. Would have liked more detail about what is offered at which schools, placement rates in the preferred field, persistence within the chosen field, and ways to improve or expand what's currently being offered.

This podcast did not fit the title. It did not tell a new counselor what the grad program left out. What it did do, was tell counselors to quit complaining about additional job duties imposed by their site because "you're paid to do what you're told" and then to "throw out your confidentiality notice," which would be a major violation in many states that recognize confidentiality for students age 12 and above. This is very concerning misinformation to provide to counselors.

Who is Richie Jackson?

This is what I wondered when this book popped up in my search results. I spent the next few hours listening and figuring out the answer. In an open-hearted and candid telling of his experiences, Mr. Jackson reveals that love is an ethereal essence, life is comical, and together they make things more interesting than we can ever imagine. Every parent, and every child, can learn from this book so many things that so often go unsaid - the very real worry, the incredible joy, the marvelous independence of children, and the oppressive meddling of parents (including Mr. Jackson!). Even more enjoyable is that the story covers an essential period of American history and Mr. Jackson's own growth within (and at times outside of) it. The introduction lead me to additional books I hadn't yet read, including "Wisecracker" about William Haines, and to books I didn't yet know I needed to read, such as, "I Was Better Last Night," by Harvey Fierstein. Both are wonderful and my life is better for having learned who Mr. Jackson is and how he experienced his life and how his children changed him forever.
