Historia
When Collum arrives at Camelot to compete for a place on the Round Table, he quickly discovers that he’s too late: The king died two weeks ago at the Battle of Camlannt. And the survivors aren’t the heroes of legend either, like Lancelot or Gawain. They’re the oddballs of the Round Table, like Sir Palomides, the Saracen Knight, and Sir Dagonet, Arthur’s fool, who was knighted as a joke. They’re joined by Nimue, who was Merlin’s apprentice until she turned on him and buried him under a hill. But it’s up to them to rebuild Camelot in a world that has lost its balance.

good arthuriana
Revisado: 11-19-24
I liked this examination into king arthur myths. modern in deconstruction of the great knights but no way tedious or deliberately cynical. I think the portrayal and flaws of the round table knights goes a long way to build up the tragedy of it all. not as cynical and historic like warlord chronicles but instead mythical and wondrous.
do note this audiobooks chapters in app and in book aren't quite right but the book plays just fine.

The Nysis is unlike any other river. Mysteries unfold with each port of call. Not many can navigate these channels; not many know of its whirlpools and sandbanks, of the ravenous creatures that lurk beneath the surface. Cady used to have the necessary knowledge and the powers of spectral navigation, but her glory days are well behind her now. This might well be her final journey.

got it cuz of the cover art and synopsis. the post apocalypticy england science/fantasy mishmash worldbuilding is awesome plus I'm a sucker for river trave adventures. it's alll are right up my speed. the production and narration is spot on too. characterisation is great. yet something about the story's package makes it less the sum of its parts.
unfortunately the river quest adventure left me on the shores a few times.

The continuing story of Arthur, the second in a trilogy which began with The Winter King. The novels bring Arthur and his world to vivid life. A man battling for his vision of the future in a brutal age, dragged down by suspicions and magics of the past, surrounded by intrigue, dependent on his skill at war and genius for leadership.

adored it.
Revisado: 10-20-23
I've been running the King Arthur Pendragon tabletop roleplaying game for a while and thought I'd read this as a fun inspirational read after stuff like Mallory.
Holy crap this book gutpunched me and had me in its grips entirely til it was over. It was so much more than what I expected. From the first debut of Arthur in the eyes of a 14 year old to the great battle I was enchanted in its story.
I had no experience with the author's writings prior but the narrator I knew from other books, like Helsreach. And the booming voice of him is exactly the melodramatic flair this book required. absolutely perfect.

In The Earth Transformed, ground-breaking historian Peter Frankopan shows that engagement with the natural world and with climatic change and their effects on us are not new: exploring, for instance, the development of religion and language and their relationships with the environment; tracing how growing demands for harvests resulted in the increased shipment of enslaved peoples; scrutinising how the desire to centralise agricultural surplus formed the origins of the bureaucratic state; and seeing how efforts to understand and manipulate the weather have a long history.

a long struggle but interesting!
Revisado: 08-09-23
Struggled to finish this book by the end of it simply because it's so long but overall this book is just full of interesting insights about the earth's history and how were a part of it.
This was the first place I heard the theory that early moon tidal pools may influenced land based lifeform evolution as tides trapped creatures into pools and lakes!
I wish the book spent more attention on the 20th century but I'm glad I read it.

Dark Adventure Radio Theatre: Masks of Nyarlathotep is an epic tale of globe-trotting adventure inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, presented as a 1930s-style radio drama. Dark Adventure Radio Theatre presents the tale with an absurdly large cast of professional actors, exciting sound effects and thrilling original music by Troy Sterling Nies. Now, in partnership with Chaosium, we've adapted their most famed and beloved game supplement of all time - Masks of Nyarlathotep - into a fully dramatized super episode of Dark Adventure Radio Theatre.

loved it. I knew a little of the call of Cthulhu adventure they referenced so I doubly enjoyed their interpretation but if you're coming at this fresh that's probably even better. great job with it! earnestly perhaps there were too many tongue in cheek commercials but it wasn't so bad.

a weak link in this series. most of it is fine I guess. the start is pretty abysmal but the book tacks in the middle back into the slice of life space stuff that we all love.

Classic Dumarest. After #7 I came into Veruchia hoping for a more interesting story and wasn't disappointed. I come into these stories like this is a poorly funded CW show premiering after Stargate on a weekday night.
World politics, Cyclans, Earl fighting some genetically modified animal gladiator-style, and a little mystery.
Most importantly, the audio of this production is suspect in a couple places (especially the back half).
