Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Great Narrator
Revisado: 08-16-24
I think that if you like Neil Gaiman as a narrator, you'll enjoy this narrator. however, the story falls below my expectations. I had high hopes in chapter one, what a premise! but then it just falls away into chatter about everyone "having" Many sex partners...
There's not a single character that's remarkable enough to connect with. And while I know, this was written 100 years ago, but for a story about technology being used to control the masses, I find it mostly crude and unimaginative. No foresight at all to consider that 700 years may bring more to read than Shakespeare or that people may grow to view races beyond negros and savages... don't get me started on the moments of cognitive dissonance. I find it 90% drab, despite an excellent narrator, idk if I could have gotten through this without him.

They’re gorgeous. They’re picky moms, and tremendous flirts. They are sparkly. And they drink blood. We hopped on the line with mosquito researcher, medical entomologist, CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service officers, and Culicidologist, Dr. Fhallon Ware-Gilmore to chat about mozzies. Why do skeeters bite you, specifically? Which ones should we watch out for? Why do they make high-pitched sounds? WHAT DO THEIR HELL MOUTHS LOOK LIKE? And how can I learn to love them? But also, how can I keep them away from me? Scream in your date's face and drink blood, if you’re a mosquito, because things ...

a lil too much telling instead of showing, dialogue heavy, kinda corny, and unironic.

Mary McLeod Bethune
Revisado: 01-30-24
I appreciate this story so much. Bringing Mrs. Bethune to the surface where she belongs! Although this is a fictionalized biography, I am full of joy learning about this close friendship of an amazing pair women in history. I have heard the coined title "First Lady of the struggle", but I'm embarrassed to say that whatever had been told of her, had not stuck with me. I think back to a time in my life when I was innocent and believed racism lived only in history books, so such activism didn't touch me the way it does in my life today. Thank you so much to these brave an intelligent fighting women. And thank you for this novel for telling this story.

I'm not a huge fan of reading sci-fi, I find all the made-up words and names distracting. but this was easy to follow and fun! I love the animated narration and idk, the alien voice just wouldn't be the same Ina book book. excellent audiobook.

Historia
It's 1894. Jordan Wallace and Sadie Wagner appear to have little in common. Jordan, a middle-aged black teacher, lives in segregated Chicago. Two thousand miles away, Sadie, the white wife of an ambitious German businessman, lives in more tolerant Oakland, California. But years ago, their families intertwined on a plantation in Virginia. There, Jordan's and Sadie's mothers developed a bond stronger than blood, despite the fact that one was enslaved and the other was the privileged daughter of the plantation’s owner.

for letting me live in the lives of these characters for a little more time. Loved the first book and love getting to know what more became of everything, quite satisfying.
this one isn't as astounding as the others, but it lacks nothing really for me either.
i love examining the struggles of the time period; this is definitely a story that envokes empathy in the soul, for black people and women and an era I barely know how to think about.
the performance wasn't as capturing, often unusual pauses throughout and sometimes the dialogue came off unnatural. lots of unique characteristic of voices for different characters, i appreciated that effort, but there was something off about the editing. not the narrator's best work, by far, not terrible either.

Historia
Moments after Lisbeth is born, she’s taken from her mother and handed over to an enslaved wet nurse, Mattie, a young mother separated from her own infant son in order to care for her tiny charge. Thus begins an intense relationship that will shape both of their lives for decades to come. Though Lisbeth leads a life of privilege, she finds nothing but loneliness in the company of her overwhelmed mother and her distant, slave-owning father.

Historia
Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, its strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt? Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff - thanks to her adorably meddlesome parents who nominated her - and she expects her biggest crime wave to involve an elderly flasher named Doug. But a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place.

interesting story
Revisado: 07-06-23
total gagger how these strong smart women are distracted from finding a missing girl to fawn all over how good-looking every guy in the book is. super gross. sorry, make the characters strong or make them sappy, in love with everyone with a fit vod, but dont try to pass off as both. if i knew how much these ladies were going to be blabbing about how gorgeous all the dudes were, it would have been a hard pass. author repeats the same phrases a lot also, which is annoying and boring.
narrator did a decent job.
