Historia
Young men who dream of becoming heroes look to West Point - to a career dedicated to serving their country. The Class of 1966 was no exception, but in the course of their military training and careers, these cadets faced a far greater challenge then ever before imagined. President Kennedy had called for a new kind of officer, prepared to fight a new kind of war, and during their years of rigorous academic and military training, the men of '66 heard the thunder of Vietnam growing ever more loudly.

Historia
Richard Dawkins, the world’s most famous evolutionary biologist, presents a gorgeously lucid, science book examining some of the nature’s most fundamental questions both from a mythical and scientific perspective. Science is our most precise and powerful tool for making sense of the world. Before we developed the scientific method, we created rich mythologies to explain the unknown. The pressing questions that primitive men and women asked are the same ones we ask as children. Who was the first person? What is the sun? Why is there night and day?

Typical Richard Dawkins .... Hard core logic, entertaining, and very informative. I just wish I had half of his intellect. He is an amazing scientist and author. 5 Stars.

A leading expert in motivation and personality psychology, Carol Dweck has discovered in more than 20 years of research that our mindset is not a minor personality quirk: it creates our whole mental world. It explains how we become optimistic or pessimistic. It shapes our goals, our attitude toward work, and ultimately predicts whether or not we will fulfull our potential.

This book provided me with a useful roadmap of how to elminate my "fixed mindset" tendencies. The author provides helpful examples of growth vs. fixed mindset scenaries and demonstrates how damaging the traditional beliefs of "IQ" and "The Natural" can be to young and old people. Highly recommend!

Historia
Most people believe that the best way to motivate is with rewards like money - the carrot-and-stick approach. That's a mistake, says Daniel H. Pink (author of To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Motivating Others). In this provocative and persuasive new book, he asserts that the secret to high performance and satisfaction - at work, at school, and at home - is the deeply human need to direct our own lives, to learn and create new things, and to do better by ourselves and our world.

This was an excellent book which helped me understand how I can greatly improve my personal and professional life. I read "Flow" many years ago and this is the perfect compliment to that book. "Drive" is narriated by the author who does an excellent job of delivering a clear and understandable message of what makes people succeed (or fail). I highly recommend "Drive".

Who understood the risk inherent in the assumption of ever-rising real-estate prices, a risk compounded daily by the creation of those arcane, artificial securities loosely based on piles of doubtful mortgages? Michael Lewis turns the inquiry on its head to create a fresh, character-driven narrative brimming with indignation and dark humor, a fitting sequel to his number-one best-selling Liar’s Poker.

I highly recommend this book. Michael Lewis does a supurb job of telling the story of the financial meltdown and the relevant causes (CDO's and Credit Default Swaps). I read "Liars Poker" 20 years ago and this book is just as informative and entertaining. He is truly a great author and story teller.

Historia
People on the right are furious. People on the left are livid. And the center isn't holding. There is only one thing on which almost everyone agrees: there is something very wrong in Washington. The country is being run by pollsters. Few politicians are able to win the voters' trust. Blame abounds and personal responsibility is nowhere to be found. There is a cynicism in Washington that appalls those in every state, red or blue.

Excellent work
Revisado: 04-18-10
Mr. Klien presents an entertaining and educational work with "Politics Lost". I found his perspective much more impressive since he clearly attempted to show problems with the "Left" and the "Right" side of the political spectrum. This is in stark contrast with "Just How Stupid Are We" which only focuses on right wing shenanigans. By his own admission, Mr. Klien is certainly left of center but he is cleary brilliant as well. As a Republican I found his book very informative and I highly recommend it to everyone interested in politics.

Americans of all political stripes are heading into the 2008 election with the sense that something has gone terribly wrong with American politics. But what exactly? The only thing everyone seems to agree on, in fact, is that the American people are entirely blameless. InJust How Stupid Are We?, best-selling historian and renowned myth-buster Rick Shenkman takes aim at our great national piety: the wisdom of the American people.

"Left Bias" but good book
Revisado: 03-28-10
I enjoyed the book. The auther made excellent points about the real fault of current political problems .... the American voter (or non-voter). However, I would estimate that 90% of his examples focused on right-wing abuses. There is no doubt that such abuses exist but I feel he could have spent just as much time on left-wing political shenanigins. It was as if Jay Leno only told "Republican Jokes" and never focused on the humorous (and sad) stories related to Blue State Leaders. That said, this is a good book and I recommend it.
