Incredible narrative
Revisado: 01-11-23
Marcus Brotherton did an incredible job capturing the true story of Joe Johnson. The details fit perfectly into the greater context of the war in the Pacific. it's difficult to imagine that a human being can endure so much and still come out a better man.
I'm grateful for the love and inspiration I felt from this reading. Thank you Marcus.

Historia
Autumn 1944. World War II is nearly over in Europe but is escalating in the Pacific, where American soldiers face an opponent who will go to any length to avoid defeat. The Japanese army follows the samurai code of Bushido, stipulating that surrender is a form of dishonor. Killing the Rising Sun takes listeners to the bloody tropical-island battlefields of Peleliu and Iwo Jima and to the embattled Philippines, where General Douglas MacArthur has made a triumphant return and is plotting a full-scale invasion of Japan.

I love this audiobook. I learned things I had no idea about. I wish we could learn from history but we seldom do.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Incredible. Just incredible!
Revisado: 07-28-20
A Higher Call was one of the most amazing books I have ever read. The detail of the narrative was meticulously researched and presented to the reader (or listener in my case). I helped recover the remains of a WWII B-24 in England last year with recent veterans through American Veterans Archeological Recovery. The experience set me as a character in this book and I could feel the riveting action as described by the author. I highly recommend this book.
