Historia
In the developed world, we’ve reaped the benefits of refrigeration for more than a century, but the costs are catching up with us. We’ve eroded our connection to our food and redefined what “fresh” means. More important, refrigeration is one of the leading contributors to climate change. As the developing world races to build a US-style cold chain, Twilley asks: Can we reduce our dependence on refrigeration? Should we?

The content of the book stood out the most.
Revisado: 10-15-24
Fascinating and exhaustive report/story of refrigeration - the pros and cons and the dangers to our environment. I listened to the audio book, read by the author. It’s a must read for anyone who’s notice or is aware of climate change and who also enjoys an ice cold beer. Sometimes there are more details than I could absorb, but that’s ok because overall it’s important info for us all.

Historia
Growing up on Long Island, lonely and quiet and queer, she was enchanted by Hollywood starlets like Kim Novak. She found her turn in New York’s early Off-Off-Broadway theater scene, in Warhol’s films Flesh and Women in Revolt, and at the famed nightclub Max's Kansas City. She inspired songs by Lou Reed and the Rolling Stones. She became friends with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, borrowed a dress from Lauren Hutton, posed for Richard Avedon, and performed alongside Tennessee Williams in his own play.

Hard not to give this book 5 stars
Revisado: 09-13-23
Very smart, vulnerably human, and at times funny. I may have been the only person not familiar with John Green before reading this. But I will keep him on my radar now.

Intriguing must-read.
Revisado: 02-14-23
This is a compelling book that ponders some of life’s big questions in unexpected ways. Sometimes using humor, or the gnawing of the busy mind, Saramago conveys a man upswept in his unexpected human need for connection and meaning.
Masterfully narrated. Hats off.

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. Great read!
Revisado: 06-27-22
It’s a layered, disturbing yet fun road journey. The main character, whatever his name is, is complex and fittingly off his rocker considering the world he lives in. Under the circumstances, he could be any of us.
So well-written, Dan Chaon traverses the tight rope between the unthinkable horrible and the lovingly human (and canine), while the humor shines through.
Listened to the audio - an excellent performance by John Pirhalla.
