Cringe worthy lame throughout with very little nuance. Seems to speak to the lowest common denominator.

There is much to learn in this wonderful books about health and beauty. However great writers don’t always make great (or even good) narrators. Snyder’s nasal voice is grating and Chopra’s monotone makes your eyelids droop. I would recommend this in book form so that you can highlight and notate passages and skip the annoying narration.

I loved this book, but it doesn’t make sense to purchase as an audio book since there are many journal prompts and meditations. Unfortunately a PDF is not provided with these materials,

More trashy tabloid than insightful or intelligent

This book’s subject had so much potential for an insightful and witty analysis of the industry. However, the book read more like a tabloid, with Cecchi trashing individuals by name and retelling decades-old complaints over trivial matters (that the reader frankly has no reason to care about). The frequent recounting of celebrity interactions feels more like name-dropping than compelling storytelling (there are many “cool story bro” moments) and the writer’s massive ego is cringe inducing. Cecchi’s wannabe Jay McEnerny style is entertaining in small quantities, but the book overall seems to try to compensate lack of interesting story with name calling, anger and foul language.

Speaks painfully slowly, takes odd pauses, and says “quote/unquote.” Such a shame for this book.

Great Story about Women in the Corporate World

I don’t know much about the challenges women face in the corporate world, and this book gave me a real education about the young sharks that middle aged women face just trying to maintain their standings and keep their jobs. I enjoyed this story as told by Karen Grace, a middle aged woman in the insurance industry. After a series of miscarriages have strained their relationship, Karen’s husband has left her for a younger woman. Her mother’s health is failing, and the company for which she works wants to cut costs by laying off hundreds of her staff and possibly closing her office. Karen wishes she could go see her mother, but she must get the kinks out of her software program which can save her company enough money to save the jobs of her beloved staff.

This book was well written and makes the reader want to continue the series in order to find out what Karen will do next.

Author Denise Kiernan traces the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and explores the idea of expressing gratitude collectively as a nation in her book, We Gather Together. Through the perseverance of writer, editor and women's rights activist Sarah Josepha Hale, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday to be held on the 4th Thursday in November, during the Civil War in 1863. Hale was an incredibly accomplished "influencer" of her day, and had campaigned presidents for 33 years to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. Her vision was to set aside the day as a time for Americans to enjoy a hearty meal with loved ones and to express gratitude for the harvest and for their many blessings. Lincoln agreed to proclaim the holiday out of a wish to bring our warring nation together.

The most surprising takeaway for me was that Thanksgiving was not associated with the Pilgrims until 1939 when Franklin Delano Roosevelt mentioned in his proclamation: "More than three centuries ago, at the season of the gathering in of the harvest, the Pilgrims humbly paused in their work and gave thanks to God for the preservation of their community and for the abundant yield of the soil." We Gather Together describes how the Wampanoag tribe signed a treaty with the Pilgrims and taught the Pilgrims how to plant in the harsh Massachusetts climate. Though this alliance enabled the Pilgrims to survive the year, the Native Americans were not honored or even acknowledged in Thanksgiving tales until after Senator Edward Kennedy and his subcommittee issued a report on Indian education, unemployment and infant mortality in 1969.

We Gather Together enlightens us to the fact that Thanksgiving is understandably mourned by many Native Americans who see the arrival of the Europeans as the beginning of the end of their civilization.

Kiernan has written a very even handed story of Thanksgiving, with lots of interesting historical details that kept me engrossed from the start. She takes the reader beyond the tired old stereotypical stories of Thanksgiving, and presents the facts with honesty and good humor.

A little difficult to follow the story line and the rules of time travel at times, but I loved this story about a Korean-American girl who learns how to time travel via a shared loved of food with her grandmother.

I listened to this while in covid-19 quarantine. I would have enjoyed it anytime, but especially now it’s great to hear how other cultures embrace life and create happiness and fulfillment. I am going to buy the hardcover as well for further study. This author is witty and keeps it interesting. The first and longest (I believe) chapter was Australia, which I found the least interesting. So if you’re bored on Oz keep reading!
