Stunning Story; Remarkable Police/Lawyer Work

A must read for any fan of amazing detective, lawyering, and judicial work. It is a sick and disturbing crime, but it is a masterful story, and made so in part by the brilliant and unparalleled prosecutor who secured the conviction of this horrendous human being.

The reader would have been splendid, but she insisted on doing the most ANNOYING accent to try to duplicate the speaking pattern of the murderer, and it drove me nuts. I literally rolled my eyes every time she started to speak in the dumb accent (actually, all of her "voices" for people were bad). She would’ve been perfect if she had just read his lines normally.

This is a must read for anyone interested in true crime and a tremendously well done investigative and judicial process. The only tragedy aside from the horrendous murders of these women is that this horrible person known as Richard Speck escaped the death penalty.

Porter tells a vulnerable, deep, beautiful story about the struggles he endured as a child being black, gay, and molested. And it didn’t get easier when he broke into the business, but his resilience of spirit shone and brought him through. Brava!

Beautifully written and narrated story about a very deep thinking, man who discovered the meaning of life in general and his life and particular one met with the end of that life. Climbing Mount Everest was simply the catalyst for a soulful change in this man’s existence. With the exception ofsome portions of the book that describe mountain climbing in meticulous detail, it is all engrossing.

3/4 of this book is absolutely engrossing, and a great read for a true crime fan. However, the therapist goes on to analyze different personality traits and theorize as to why this man committed unthinkable crimes, and it isn’t interesting. I still recommend the book

Better than I expected, and I didn’t have low expectations. I thought it might not be interesting—wrong! Wonderful detail and holds your fascination. Highly recommend for anyone interested in this human interest tragedy.

Excessively sappy animal-rights book; interesting

Mixed bag. Fascinating information about diving horses; almost intolerable band-standing and naivety by the author about animal rights. She is campy and childish about animals. She personifies unapologetically; she speaks to them and considers them her best friends. She also has a completely unrealistic view of how people treat horses after they are no longer useable. This is far less about diving horses than about a zealot about animal rights. I love animals too, but I’m realistic. If you can get by her preachy and annoying whine, there is some interesting information about the NJ diving horses, and it does read well.

Just don't read this if you are expecting a book ABOUT diving horses. This is a book about an animal-rights activist who just happens to end up with the last living diving horse, and keeps (very sweetly) until his death.

I loved him in life; and this memoir gives one awe in his death. His legacy is remarkable. The fine character of TK shines through his words. Even not being a political person, this book was a "page turner."

A "must read" for anyone interested in TK, the Kennedys, or even politics.

The author did an amazing job humanizing this epic disaster and following individual stories. There are many uplifting stories of human compassion and selflessness. But the book also gets dry in places and tiring to slog through. If you have studied much about 9.11, you won’t learn anything new about the actions and omissions that led to such tragedy. You will just learn individual perspectives and experiences, while being reminded of our incompetence in preventing this horror. I did finish, but I’d recommend it more for those who don’t know a lot of detail about 9.11. It is also hard to keep track of all the names since their stories are parallel.

This book was absolutely dreadful. There might’ve been one or two chapters that I completed in fall. The author just ramble on and on esoterically about her inner self and our inner child. It is so boring. I love this author so much after reading, mommy dearest, so much so that I wanted to read this book. What a mistake.I skipped through most of it, and I didn’t miss anything. It is mind numbing chatter about the publication of the book and the publicity that followed. None of it is interesting in anyway. Save your time.

This is a tremendous, beautiful book. Christina Crawford is a resilient and amazing human being. Her story is not just about "child abuse," but about a deep, painful, and yet loving relationship between mother and daughter. Joan Crawford was an abuser, and yet Christina finds a bridge between her wounds and a friendship with her mother. I was brought to tears at the end; this story is just beautiful. Do not watch the movie--read the book.
