Respect!!
Revisado: 07-04-24
To go from saying, “that dude Charlemagne is so annoying and rude,” to having to bookmark and rewind some of the most profound info he shared in this latest book. I’m 58 years old and a lot of what he shared let me know I still have some s*** I need to work on within myself.
I listened to “Black Privilege” when it first came out and really enjoyed it. This is when I started being more open to listening to what he was saying and removed the judgement and emotion from the equation.
As for the 2nd book, “Shook” I skipped right over that one. At the time I was dealing with some of my own anxieties so I didn’t want to hear anyone else talk about theirs. But I think I can handle it now.
Charlamagne, I hope you continue to write, and share your knowledge along with your own personal experiences cuz I know I’m not the only who needs a nudge to handle some things.

Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Raw honesty
Revisado: 06-13-24
Whoopi is always gonna be genuine. I love how she shared the good; the bad; the ups and the downs of her life. And her mom was some kinda woman. No matter the challenge she met it at the door and let it in. But she didn’t let it stop or change her. And her brother Clyde seemed like a cool brother & son. And he loved and protected them both. They had very little in the sense of money and material things, but the love they had for one another and the life lessons their mom taught them was so valuable.
Whoppi’s story will make you laugh, celebrate and even cry a little. Whatever your feelings were before listening to this book, I can bet they will change afterwards and allow you to see the other side of a great human and amazing talent!!!

Never stop discovering yourself
Revisado: 05-15-24
Now this is how you tell your story!!! Shaunie was able to share the details of her life’s ups and downs without bashing or name dropping certain people!! I respect that she showed her vulnerability, and thankful she was never braggadocious. I look forward to listening to her and her husband’s podcast and waiting with bated breath for her to create a new show that will be uplifting and enjoyable for all to watch.

Inspiring and Insightful
Revisado: 12-01-22
Tabitha shared some of the most simplistic tidbits about life and she gave us a glimpse into her own journey in a way that you felt like it was your favorite auntie talking to you!! Before I could complete the book I was telling so many ppl how great it is and they really need to read it. Definitely will continue recommending it to others and I know I’ll listen to it again. Side note: I already made one of the vegan recipes she shared, the chickpea tuna…it was delicious!!!!

I should know better than to just listen to a clip before purchasing. I made it to Chapter 7 and I just couldn’t take it anymore. Lesson learned, read the excerpt before using a credit.

Historia
Black girls and women disappear every day, but not without a trace. Join actress and activist Erika Alexander in a neo-noir, true crime drama as she searches for Tamika Huston, a 24-year-old Black woman from Spartanburg, SC who went missing in 2004. Her case became a rallying cry for other missing Black women in America and led to a growing demand to expose a system that ignores missing girls and women of color.

Black Girls Lives Matter
Revisado: 04-24-22
I credit myself with watching and listening to the news, reading online papers etc…and I didn’t know about the untimely tragic death of this young black woman. Thank you for sharing every detail of her story including the many people whose lives she touched and their love for her and how they are all still hurting and healing. When I heard Trey Gawdy was associated with the case I cringed. But knowing the impact he had in helping to bring closure for Tamika’s family, I can at least say I respect him. Investigations and cold cases need to continue to be brought to light so other families can have closure.

This is my second time listening to this book. The first time I was not fully accepting of my own shortcomings. This time I’m more conscious and willing to accept where I need to grow and learn!!! Using the clip function gives me the opportunity to review/keep notes for later reference. Check your ego because Eckhart Tollle is going to hit some areas in your life that make you take notice.

Revisado: 07-25-21
Way too many characters, the hype building up to the climax of the story was extremely disappointing.
I only finished this book because I just knew it was going to be a moment of ,’WOW, I didn’t see that coming…..but it never happened!!!!”
Hair grease…..seriously?! And Hazel, conniving to the core!!!

Privilege & Sinister
Revisado: 08-19-20
I HATED this book!!! This was privilege at its finest. The wife was insecure and then turned into heartless b**** after her husband revealed that he murdered Hannah, his ex-fiancée. By covering up the same murder as her husband it gave her a sense of control over him and now they share the kind of love that is utterly sickening and dangerous!!!!

Dysfunctional Family on Steroids
Revisado: 07-16-20
Although I wasn’t surprised by most of what Mary shared about her uncle, #45. It was sad that this family never seemed to enjoy life. It was a constant barrage of competition, hate, corruption and fear that not only robbed #45 of life and pursuit of happiness but also his siblings. One could almost muster up a little empathy for him given his upbringing, but he’ll somehow manage to say, Tweet or act less than human and piss you off before the emotion of compassion can settle in.
