Historia
It's amazing enough when Murdoch Ross's brilliant grandfather invents a machine that can send messages to itself in the past or the future. But when signals begin to arrive without being sent, Murdoch realizes that every action he takes changes the future that would have been...and that the world he lives in has already been altered! Then a new message arrives from the future: The world is doomed!

Not for me but narration was great!
Revisado: 01-26-25
Bought for my late family member (who enjoyed it!) and thought I would listen to it finally. I tend to prefer action/adventure science fiction and this is very technical. Too hard science for me. Picks up towards the end. Narrator was excellent and a big reason why I got through the whole book!

Historia
English magicians were once the wonder of the known world, with fairy servants at their beck and call; they could command winds, mountains, and woods. But by the early 1800s they have long since lost the ability to perform magic. They can only write long, dull papers about it, while fairy servants are nothing but a fading memory.

Can't Decide If I Like It
Revisado: 09-06-24
I could almost give this a 3 star. This book is mostly written like a memoir of two people. Not really action/adventure which is my preference. The last 1/3 of the book was pretty good though.

Historia
Bradbury's Mars is a place of hope, dreams, and metaphor - of crystal pillars and fossil seas - where a fine dust settles on the great, empty cities of a silently destroyed civilization. It is here the invaders have come to despoil and commercialize, to grow and to learn - first a trickle, then a torrent, rushing from a world with no future toward a promise of tomorrow. The Earthman conquers Mars...and then is conquered by it, lulled by dangerous lies of comfort and familiarity, and enchanted by the lingering glamour of an ancient, mysterious native race.

I've read and listened to this before (Scott Brick) and was only so-so with the story. Mark Boyett brings these characters alive!! Huge difference in enjoyment!

Outstanding Narration!
Revisado: 06-01-22
Gerald Dickens did a fabulous job of narrating this old classic. Easy to understand even with my hearing loss. The story itself starts a bit slow, but after awhile, you really get sucked into the drama. Recommend!

Historia
Amos Subers isn’t one to tip waiters, pay back a loan, or behave generously with family. When it’s discovered that penny-pinching Amos was actually quite wealthy, it hardly engenders goodwill in the small town...in fact, he’s heartily disliked. Octogenarian sleuth Myrtle Clover’s housekeeper is certainly no fan of his: Amos owes Puddin money for cleaning his house. It’s not too surprising when Amos is later found, murdered, in his kitchen. Myrtle and her senior sidekick, Miles, resolve to track down the killer when Puddin becomes a prime suspect.

I received this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review. So hear goes:
This is a first person narrative of a suspenseful mystery. First person is DIFFICULT to write because commentary often makes the story boring. I like this character, I like the plot. However, minutiae creates dead spots that don't move the plot along. Better in the second half, I enjoyed that.
Narrator was average. Did a good job of character separation. Clear speech. You could tell the narrator became more interested in the story about half way through.
Overall, I enjoyed the character enough that I will likely get the next book.

The story was interesting, but repeating information isn't really required in such a short story. Narrator easy to understand but a bit monotone to me in the beginning until he warmed up to the story. His characters were good all through,

Blurb More Promising than the story
Revisado: 05-05-20
I listened to about half of this and couldn't take it any more. Just not my cup of tea.
The narrator's tendency to end each sentence on a down beat also got to me. I know John Lee does this, but that doesn't mean I enjoy it. Kafer did this less often as the story continued.

Good, rambly listen
Revisado: 03-02-20
First, I loved the story! There were parts that were a bit rambly, but all in all, it kept me from going to bed on time for a few nights.
I want to mention that this is a first person narrative with a lot of internal dialog. There are people who hate 1st person narratives - just warning you!
