Just okay
Revisado: 12-06-24
A bit too long after a while and lots of western saviourism; it got quite annoying at times. The ending was quite underwhelming. The narrator, however, did an excellent job even if the accents didn’t always match up.

Historia
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

Expected more Grandmother
Revisado: 05-12-20
This felt like two different topic stories, both good, but both left me wanting more. On one hand, I wanted a lot more grandmother wisdom than was given. I was entranced by the grandmother’s words and advice. The other subject matter could have easily been a good LGBTQ love story on its own but not what I was expecting at all.

Historia
In the realm of African spiritual pathways, no tradition is so widely embraced and practiced as the West African religion Orisa. Awakened by her own spiritual journey, Tobe Melora Correal, an initiated priestess in the Yoruba-Lukumi branch of Orisa, guides us along this blessed road. Finding Soul on the Path of Orisa provides a fresh look at these ancient teachings and emphasizes introspection and inner work over the outward manifestations of Orisa's practices.

Historia
Margaret Trudeau, former wife of Pierre Trudeau, 15th Prime Minister of Canada, mother of Justin Trudeau, Canada's current Prime Minister, and international mental health advocate, brought her intimate staged performance, Certain Woman of an Age, to the Minetta Lane Theatre, where it was recorded live for Audible Theater. In this "fearless and vulnerable" (Chicago Tribune) one-woman show, Trudeau opens up - with refreshing candor - about her extraordinary life and her encounters with some of the most important icons of our time.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Brilliant, an ex-Mormon must
Revisado: 12-24-19
As a former member of the LDS church who also grew up in a terribly dysfunctional and abusive household, I can say that this book is a must for anyone who might be trying to recover from a similar lifestyle. I found much comfort in relating to Tara’s inner conflicts and mental battles as a result of her upbringing. I admire Tara’s resilience and strength, I wish I could let her know how much her writing means to me and give her a hug. Thank you, Tara Westover, for sharing your story with us!

Historia
Frida Kahlo was ahead of her time. She was bisexual and would have fit in perfectly in the time we live in now. Her disabilities would be acceptable in our society of today and her husband, Diego would probably be run out of town by the Real Housewives of “Cheaters”. Frida came with a lot of baggage in her life starting when she was only six years old and even more baggage piled on when she was in high school. Her suffering was more than anyone can imagine but she kept her head held high and forged her way forward.

Terrible!
Revisado: 12-06-19
This reads like a mix between a middle school essay and gossip magazine. The author sounds like a mean-girl type teenager, has no art background or art education and can’t seem to get past Frida’s appearance, even at one point suggesting she should have waxed her facial hair so that she could have been happier in life?! The organization is awful as well and goes back and forth in timeline inserting random quotes and observations. Don’t waste your time or money on this.
