these books feel like everything is being told to you by the narrator instead of the characters showing it. The characters are also very generic and have little personality.

There are no complaints with this series other than there are only 2 books. It has the great snark of a British writer. I would only wish there was a little less sexism but hay, not enough for me to complain about it.

Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life. There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to. To hell with that.

This book could be good except the narrator makes the women all sound like Mickey Mouse. He should practice more before he makes me give up all books he is the narrator for.
The book writing has some great elements I look forward to this author maturing as a story teller.

OMG MC is terrible

The book is long. If you cut out the whining from the MC it would be a third shorter. Also the absolutely terrible toddler hiss fot based plans that somehow work are mind boggling. Mostly the MCs plans are force it because I don't want do it the smart way. The convoluted plot takes from all the redundant tropes your tired of. The characters are 2 dimensional and hardly have much concrete personality.

so the first two books were good listens. the performance was below average as he 9nly has 4 different voices. the series gets too conveluted by the third book and the first person parts by horidly underdeveloped characters made me give up on this series at book 4.
