Historia
The Perry family's new house is perfect - except for the weird behavior of the neighbors, and that odd smell coming from a dark corner in the basement. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the basement stairs is rising.

Better than expected
Revisado: 12-10-20
The ol’ haunted house but has been pretty hashed out - let’s be real - so, I didn’t have any high expectations I picked this title mostly just to pass the time. Imagine my surprise when this was fairly original, suspenseful and engaging.
It’s still a haunted house story so don’t expect the wheel to be reinvented here, but it’s well thought out and written and genuinely scary.

Historia
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets 16-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

not the best narration. ..
Revisado: 02-16-16
The story was good, definitely something new which is always nice.
I was not a fan of the narration at all. I thought it was too immature, yes there are kids and it is whimsical, but that doesn't mean it should be narrated like an exaggerated cartoon. Regretted paying for the narration, I should have just kept reading it.

Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Perhaps a Gamer's Paradise....I wouldn't know
Revisado: 12-22-15
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book. The synopsis sounded interesting and I think the topic of how immersed we have become as a society in our technology has endless possibilities - unfortunately, I thought the book explored very few of those possibilities. There is little to NO reason for me to become invested in these virtual characters. It would be like becoming attached to Nintendo's Zelda in an unhealthy capacity. Somewhere in the back of my mind I'm aware that I'm basically listening to a story about characters in a chat room with avatars. I can't get emotionally invested in pixels it just didn't work for me. There just wasn't enough real world reference. The 'Stacks' were interesting! The armored bus ride was interesting! The arcade wizards in a virtual world that the story focused on - not. so. much.I thought all the references to the obsession with the 80's culture was a convenient way for someone perhaps out of touch with current vernacular to write from a younger perspective. Again, didn't really work for me.I don't like writing negative reviews, but my distaste for this story is pretty strong. Given all that, the writing wasn't horrific and the performance was alright so I can't just pan it entirely.

Historia
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

It's getting a little out there...
Revisado: 04-01-15
I can't say it's bad. But it's beginning to be a stretch. I don't personally appreciate all the romance. because after escaping an evil under lord I'm sure any woman would stoically broach the subject of her sister in law's love life like it's super important. Right.
It's still enjoyable, though less so with each sequel. Also becoming rather predictable.
