Historia
Vivian Gordon went out before midnight in a velvet dress and mink coat. Her body turned up the next morning in a desolate Bronx park, a dirty clothesline wrapped around her neck. At her stylish Manhattan apartment, detectives discovered notebooks full of names—businessmen, socialites, gangsters. And something else—a letter from an anti-corruption commission established by Governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Annoying narration of a good story
Revisado: 04-01-24
Unfortunately, the female narrator spent a lot of time shouting and overdramatizing lines spoken by male characters, which predominate the book. That seemed to be her way of trying to convey their heavy handedness or power and control over the lives and misfortunes of the female characters. Instead it was simply grating and distracting. I would have enjoyed the book far more without the cheesy narration.

Historia
In the best-selling tradition of Henry Bushkin's Johnny Carson comes The Way It Was: My Life with Frank Sinatra, a candid and eye-opening inside look at the final decades of Sinatra's life, told by his long-time manager and friend, Eliot Weisman. Eliot Weisman worked with Frank Sinatra from 1975 up until Sinatra's death in 1998 and became one of the singer's most trusted confidants and advisers. In this book, Weisman tells the story of the final years of the iconic entertainer from within his exclusive inner circle.

Don’t bother
Revisado: 03-01-23
This is not a Frank Sinatra book. It’s a boring account of the authors own life sprinkled with some Sinatra. I returned it for a refund.

Historia
Rolling Stone founder, co-editor, and publisher Jann Wenner's deeply personal memoir vividly describes and brings you inside the music, the politics, and the lifestyle of a generation, an epoch of cultural change that swept America and beyond. The age of rock and roll in an era of consequence, what will be considered one of the great watersheds in modern history. Wenner writes with the clarity of a journalist and an essayist. He takes us into the life and work of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.

Boring and Superficial
Revisado: 09-24-22
I was so looking forward to this book and so disappointed after finishing it. I will wait for a real accounting of the life and times of Jann Wenner. This one is fake. The author's narcissism is evident throughout. What makes the book so boring? The lack of authenticity in the stories. For the life of me, I cannot fathom how a writer could render such interesting experiences and decades of personal "friendships" so utterly boring and mundane. I have to conclude its because ALL of it was lived as superficially and detached as possible. There is ZERO emotion in any of his descriptions of so-called fun times and close family or friendships. It's astonishing. The most offensive parts of the book were in the patronizing and maudlin portrayals of his long-suffering wife Jane. Are we supposed to believe he kept her around because he's such a good guy who believed Jane was too devastated and pathetic to live without him? IDK. I do not like this man Jann Wenner. But I did before I read this book.
Other excellent books of a similar genre are Elton John's autobiography "Me" and Keith Richard's book "Life". Both are genuine and authentic stories of the two men, flaws and all, and very entertaining. The difference is these books lack the self-absorbed, perfectionistic posturing of Jann Wenner. They let it all hang out and we love them all the more for it!!!

Hideous narration
Revisado: 05-30-22
This author is clearly looking for attention. He should have let someone competent narrate his book to save him from himself. His voice and narration have a goofy, smirky, juvenile tone. The pace is rushed and the articulation so poor that sometimes it's even hard to understand the words. It was so distracting that it ruined any possibility of absorbing or appreciating the content. It might be a good book if unburdened by this author's self-important, supercilious narration.

Fascinating story/Horrible narration
Revisado: 02-19-21
I wish I had purchased the Kindle version or hardcover edition of this book.
I found the book very well done. I felt it gave equal time to both Tiger's storied golf game and his tumultuous personal life. However, I nearly canceled the book and returned it for credit a half dozen times because of the incredibly annoying and irritating narration. The volume and cadence and delivery are seriously uneven throughout the entire book. The tone of the narrator also put me off as it was sarcastic or pompous or goofy or literally unintelligible. At times he would mumble and swallow his words. Other times he would yell and race through pages reading so fast it ruined the material. Please find another narrator for this fine book and offer it as an option.
