Historia
Fights about the fate of the state of Israel, and the Zionist movement that gave birth to it, have long been a staple of both Jewish and American political culture. But despite these arguments' significance to American politics, American Jewish life, and to Israel itself, no one has ever systematically examined their history and explained why they matter. In We Are Not One, historian Eric Alterman traces this debate from its nineteenth-century origins.

Seemed balanced at first.

The beginning of the book was pretty informative. However, when it gets to the Trump administration, the author injects heavy anti-Trump rhetoric. It was almost like listening to two different books. Pretty disappointing.

Historia
Most history is hierarchical: it's about emperors, presidents, prime ministers, and field marshals. It's about states, armies, and corporations. It's about orders from on high. Even history "from below" is often about trade unions and workers' parties. But what if that's simply because hierarchical institutions create the archives that historians rely on? What if we are missing the informal, less well documented social networks that are the true sources of power and drivers of change?

Shamefully lacks objectivity. Last hour cringey.
Revisado: 05-02-21
Most of the book is quite good and starts off relatively unbiased. Concepts in the book are great and very well explained. However, author applies them incorrectly in some cases. Then, unfortunately, the mask of objectivity is removed to reveal a heavily skewed opinion of (you knew it was coming) President Donald J. Trump.
At one point he says that Trump's rise caused an increase in antisemitism with absolutely no explanation of how he came to that conclusion.
Very very bizarre change in the books tone.

Members of the military’s special operations branches share a closely guarded secret: They love their jobs. They relish the opportunity to fight. They are thankful for it, even, and hopeful that maybe they’ll get to kill a bunch of bad guys while they’re at it. You don’t necessarily need to thank them for their service - the pleasure is all theirs. In this hilarious and personal memoir, listeners ride shotgun alongside former Army Ranger and private military contractor and current social media phenomenon Mat Best, into the action and its aftermath, both abroad and at home.

Historia
In a 2017 survey, presidential historians ranked Dwight D. Eisenhower fifth on the list of great presidents, behind the perennial top four: Lincoln, Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Teddy Roosevelt. Historian William Hitchcock shows that this high ranking is justified. Eisenhower's accomplishments were enormous and loom ever larger from the vantage point of our own tumultuous times.

Couldn't finish. Author injects way too much personal opinion and speculation in the book. Some facts are laid out, but tries to suggest all the right leaning characters as having ill intentions. Deifies anyone with a D next to their name.

Historia
When Autobiography of a Yogi first appeared in 1946, it was acclaimed as a landmark work in its field. The New York Times hailed it as "a rare account". Newsweek pronounced it "fascinating". The San Francisco Chronicle declared, "Yogananda presents a convincing case for yoga, and those who 'came to scoff' may remain 'to pray." Today it is still one of the most widely read and respected books ever published on the wisdom of the East.

This book ties it all together.
Revisado: 04-26-17
I've seen the cover before, but had never read the book. So many deep questions that pushed and pulled at my psyche since I was young were easily set to equilibrium by Yogananda's brilliant account of his experiences. The narrator's voice fit the tone of the stories so well, its as if they were his own. I will be listening to this again and again.
