What a waste of time
Revisado: 09-07-24
Normally I like this author. But reading this ridiculous book, I felt it was an insult to my intelligence. I hated every character, they were all so vapid and it read like it had been written by a sadistic child. Fortunately, I did not waste a credit on this mess, but am removing it from my library. Shame on you, Daniel Hurst

Historia
As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smell of pine. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb. Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened.

Wow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Revisado: 07-14-24
I love Nora Robert’s and have read everything she has written. But for me, this is the best book she’s written. It was an amazing story about a close knit family, it had intrigue and a little bit of supernatural, but it was a wonderful story about the bonds of family and friendship, with a beautiful love story to tie it all together. I was a little sad when I came to the end of it. I felt like I knew all the characters in it. A great summer read that will have you thinking about the story long after you’ve finished it.

Revisado: 05-28-24
I loved that the story was told from two different perspectives. Every character was built until you felt that you knew them. I loved it so much that I almost cried when it was over. I may start reading it again now!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Historia
Alex, a single mother-of-two, is determined to make a fresh start for her and her children. In an effort to escape her troubled past, she seeks refuge in a rural community. Pine Ridge is idyllic; the surrounding forests are beautiful and the locals welcoming. Mostly. But Alex finds that she may have disturbed barely hidden secrets in her new home. As a chain of bizarre events is set off, events eerily familiar to those who have lived there for years, Alex realizes that she and her family might be in greater danger than ever before.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

I hope that everyone who listens to this book will understand the danger that lies ahead if this psychopath is re-elected. It will be the end of this country as we know it, and the real cause of all of this is the uneducated, chaos loving deplorables in this country who know nothing about our country or how our government works, and don’t even know what’s in the constitution and why it’s there.

Historia
In 1962, Jerry Sherwood gave up her newborn son, Dennis, for adoption. Twenty years later, she set out to find him - only to discover he had died before his fourth birthday. Harold and Lois Jurgens, a middle-class, churchgoing couple in picturesque White Bear Lake, Minnesota, had adopted Dennis and five other foster children. To all appearances, they were a normal Midwestern family, but Jerry suspected that something sinister had happened in the Jurgens household. She demanded to know the truth about her son's death.

Fascinating true crime story
Revisado: 11-29-23
I loved the way it started with an extensive history of the city White Bear Lake and its residents, including the police department and its legal system. And then how things were back in mid-60’s before “battered child syndrome” was known about. And then watching how things changed from 1965, when Dennis was killed and 1988 when his mother was finally convicted of his murder. The thing that ran through my mind during the entire “reading” of this, how was she ever allowed to adopt one child, let alone an additional 4 children after the social system knew what she had done? It’s a great book, well worth reading and is not just a true crime story, it’s also an amazing psychological study.

Historia
Joseph Wambaugh's Echoes in the Darkness and its subsequent TV dramatization have made household words of both Susan Reinert, the murder victim, and Dr. Jay Smith, a high school principal and her accused killer. Thus began one of the most prominent murder cases in Pennsylvania history, and one that would grip the nation. Now the defense attorney for the main suspect of the murders - Jay Smith, the principal of the school where Reinert taught - takes you inside the cover-ups and corruption that dramatically affected the outcome of the case.

One of the best true crime/courtroom books I have ever listened to
Revisado: 05-24-23
This book was so well written, it captured me with it’s first words. That this case prompted a very ethical and passionate lawyer to take on the state of Pennsylvania and win was amazing. The story behind this case deserves the “truth is stranger than fiction” mantra. When I finished it, I felt uplifted knowing there are still people in the justice system that care passionately about their cases and fight for the truth. Something that is very hard to find in the current system. I hope our democracy survives, and people like this defense lawyer are desperately needed.

Historia
Raised in the suburb of Riverside, California, 20-year-old college student Jason Bautista endured for years his emotionally disturbed mother's verbal and psychological abuse. She even locked him out of the house, tied him up with electrical cord, and on one occasion, gave him a beating that sent him to the emergency room. On the night of January 14, 2003, Jason strangled his mother. To keep authorities from identifying her body, he chopped off her head and hands, an idea he claimed he got from watching an episode of the hit TV series The Sopranos.

I would give minus stars if I could!!!!
Revisado: 02-27-23
The three stars for “overall” was a mistake that I couldn’t figure out how to fix. With everything that horrible woman did to those boys, and the way the writer made sure you hated her, and for the way the case ended made me sick. Young boys don’t know when somebody is mentally I’ll, and to be raised that way their whole lives, when they become older they’re supposed to be mature enough to ask for help? From who? They had been tied to her and isolated their whole lives. This book was pure propaganda, and the writer is disgusting. There were so many people along the way who knew something was wrong, including her family, and did nothing. They were accessories BEFORE the fact. Don’t you think the boys should have been counseled and treated for PTSD, instead of Jason going to prison for life? The defense attorney was despicable, and probably had something to do with the publishing of this book. What an egotistical, arrogant man. I HATE THIS BOOK!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬👎🏻

Please do not pay attention to the bad reviews about the narrator
Revisado: 02-16-23
This is one of the best books I have ever listened to. I have great interest in this crime after seeing “Heavenly Creatures” in the early 90’s. The narrator was excellent for this kind of book. It is written like a police report, psychiatric paper, and a narrative of the cultures and norms of the time. One thing I had never heard about was what happened to the girls after the trial, one of them becoming a famous author. It also went over their mental issues, including what they knew at the time, and new information that today’s doctors would use to diagnose them. I couldn’t put it down. I listened to the entire thing in 3 days. Give this book a chance - you won’t be sorry!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
