Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Fantastic… a story of possibilities
Revisado: 01-18-23
I loved the themes of this book -regret, possibilities, failures, successes, and always, a very thoughtful and genuine protagonist. I’m recommending it to my voracious reader friends :)

Historia
Conversations with RBG is a remarkable and unique audiobook, an informal portrait of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, drawing on a series of her conversations with Jeffrey Rosen, starting in the 1990s and continuing through the Trump era. Rosen, a veteran legal journalist, scholar, and president of the National Constitution Center, shares with us the justice’s observations on a variety of topics, and her intellect, compassion, sense of humor, and humanity shine through.

Not quite enough material for a while book
Revisado: 02-10-22
But what was here was delightful. There seemed to be a bit of repetition within the book itself, or perhaps that was my Audible recording. Still, I enjoyed it and would recommend It with that caveat.

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Good story, okay narrator
Revisado: 01-02-22
Good story, kept me with it, but the narrator needs a little work in mastering believable female voices. His characterization of Rosalind (sp?) gave up too much in foreshadowing, and most of the time just sounded like a guy trying to imitate a woman. That was sort of my stumbling point… I’ll try another in the series but hopefully it will be with a different narrator!

Briony oh briony...
Revisado: 09-07-19
This book totally grew on me. Once the characters were fully developed the real story could be told - and it was superb. Be patient with the character development - it's worth it, to totally immerse yourself in the situations at hand in the book. Loved it. Have avoided this author in the past but would totally go for it based on what I experienced with his writing this time.

I really wanted to like this Oprah pick...
Revisado: 09-07-19
I really wanted to like this Oprah pick, because I have really enjoyed some of her others. But here, honestly, the pace slows so frequently that my mind wandered (I was listening to the audio version). Then it would grab me again - eventually I gave up because the author had already previewed how it ended - and it didn't capture me into the in-between narration. Sorry! I stopped 2/3 of the way through.

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

disappointed in the ending
Revisado: 09-07-19
After I got into it, I enjoyed the rhythm of this book - like the ebb and flow of the river banks, sometimes with surprises, sometimes just flowing on.
But - seems it took the easy way out at the last - no spoilers here, but hey, it's something you already thought of - and it really wasn't necessary.

More likely to appeal to gamers
Revisado: 11-17-17
I'm not much of a video gamer, or electronic entertainment person, so I didn't enjoy as much the wrap of this story around an electronic game in the future. In fact, I decided not to finish it .But I can see how it might appeal to a slightly younger demographic (<30 yo) that has grown up with different forms of video and computer entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a technophobe by any means, but my e-entertainment mostly comes in the form of Hulu and Netflix...

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

I'd Give it to a Guy...
Revisado: 11-17-17
Many who have enjoyed reading self-help and contemplative/meditative books will find little here that is new. However, I think this the perfect book to appeal to the traditionally male approach in life - say it and get it done. For this reason, I'd probably gift it to my guy instead of, for example, one of Byron Katie's books - although they end up in very similar places.

The book that grew
Revisado: 06-09-17
What made the experience of listening to Rules of Civility the most enjoyable?
Narration was really pleasant, and the author's crafting of scenes was very engaging for my mind's eye
What did you like best about this story?
The way it crept up and grew on me - what seemed to be a slowish pace and rather boring beginning grew into much more than that - just like life. In the end, I was invested in each character in a different way - a great experience.
Which scene was your favorite?
Can't recall - but I do know I bookmarked several quotes that seemed to reflect profound truths about life.
If you could take any character from Rules of Civility out to dinner, who would it be and why?
The main character -- she just seemed to be a normal girl making her way through a world that at times is unusual and peppered with the unusual characters we frequently encounter in our lives
Any additional comments?
I absolutely loved having the Rules of Civility read, one by one, at the end. Perfect cap to the entire novel. Thank you for that.
