Historia
Fifteen-year-old Mattie Lee Watson dreams of men, not boys. So when James T. Cullowee, the Kudzu King, arrives in Cooper County, North Carolina, in 1941 to spread the gospel of kudzu—claiming that it will improve the soil, feed cattle at almost no cost, even cure headaches—Mattie is ready. Mr. Cullowee is determined to sell the entire county on the future of kudzu, and organizes a kudzu festival, complete with a beauty pageant. Mattie is determined to be crowned Kudzu Queen and capture the attentions of the Kudzu King.

One of the Best!

A delightful listen. Great characters and tough lessons in a small farming town make this book impressive! Mimi Herman’s colloquialisms and wonderful command of southern culture had me spellbound from beginning to end. The narrator was fabulous. I was not ready for this book to be over.

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Loved the historic details
Revisado: 04-29-24
Liked the explanation of what was fact and what was supposed based on information explored. Belle DeCosta Green was an accomplished woman whose decisions affected her personal life in unimaginable ways. She sacrificed her identity to gain the access to a remarkable collection for us all. A well done account of her life. The additional personal section by the authors, was illuminating; however, i believe Belle’s own life was enough to make the point.

One of the best
Revisado: 04-15-24
Meryl Streep and Ann Patchett are an extraordinary combination in making “Tom Lake,” the audible version, exceptional. Patchett is a master of character development and memorable writing. Her descriptions of each person in the novel live true and impressionable. The plot as told was riveting. It was not just Meryl Streep’s narration, but her reading of Patchett’s words that made the book one of the very best i’ve ever heard. I can’t say enough about how much this book affected me. I’m still thinking about it and the impact of betrayal and celebrity and ambition. There is a story here about life choices that resonates at every age and generation. This book may be somewhat less esoteric in plot, but it is rich in life observations and consequences.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

One of the tenderest, best written novels i ever read. Full of hard truths and harder times. McBride is a masterful storyteller and creator of unforgettable characters. A must read

For centuries, works of art have been stolen in countless ways from all over the world, but no one has been quite as successful at it as the master thief Stéphane Breitwieser. Carrying out more than two hundred heists over nearly eight years—in museums and cathedrals all over Europe—Breitwieser, along with his girlfriend who worked as his lookout, stole more than three hundred objects, until it all fell apart in spectacular fashion.

Not my favorite Kate Morton
Revisado: 01-29-19
Good listen. Just a bit long winded. I felt this read was more ponderous than Morton’s other books. It lacked the energy and surprise so typical of her themes.
