Heartfelt, Honest, and Very Informative
Revisado: 03-24-24
I've followed Dr. Attia for years. This book does not just summarize his podcasts, but interprets that information, putting them into a historical and evolving contest, focusing on a preventative approach he calls Medicine 3.0. It includes many personal stories and anecdotes that made the book lively and interesting. The only drawback was it sounded like he was reading rather than just talking, but still performance was good.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Deep dive into how trauma shapes our brain and what we can do to alleviate it
Revisado: 02-09-24
The stories of abused children were hard to hear, but important to understand the concepts on this book. The ideas here can be applied to not only extreme cases of abuse and trauma but to the past hurts most of us have suffered.

Provides a Different Perspective on Money vs. Life
Revisado: 04-05-23
I really like the idea that there are times in your life when it is appropriate to spend more, and other times, to save more, not necessarily correlated with retirement age. I found parts of the book a little depressing, to be honest, but the author was trying to make a point. we need to think more deeply about what exactly we are saving for,

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

incredibly moving, sometimes shocking
Revisado: 09-14-22
I was utterly amazed by Tara's life. It is difficult to understand all the things that she went through and how strong she is to have overcome them. The episodes involving her brother are difficult to hear. The language is at times a bit antiquated, but it's totally worth the read.

Revisado: 08-22-22
This book contains a lot of very interesting information about how your mind affects the gut and vice versa. There were some recommendations in the book, which I thought were good, but I was looking for a little more practical advice. However, I found this book very interesting and do recommend it.

Super Useful but Questions Remain
Revisado: 03-31-22
This book consists of various sections, each with different advice. The parts dealing with diet were super helpful. For example, out-of-the-box dog food isn't what the Marketing claims it to be, and it's Ok to supplement with whole foods like vegetables. Most of what you've heard as harmful to dogs is fiction. The questions that remain, though, surround the advice to never, ever use plastic, and get rid of anything with a fragrance. I'm not sure what scientific basis there is for removing all plastics and all fragrances from the home much less how to do that, when nearly everything you buy is either packed in plastic and/or has some kind of scent added.

Amazing, Hopeful, Super Informative
Revisado: 11-13-21
With the world recovering from a global pandemic, and having experienced the end of life struggle and death of several loved ones after long illnesses and cancer, I started this book with a very gloomy Outlook on aging and health in general. after reading many chapters of such hopeful, positive information, my attitude has completely turned around because of doctor Sinclair and his work. I cannot recommend this book more for young and old alike.
