Historia
Syl was given a choice by Gramps when they died. Reincarnate as a regular person or embark on a daring experiment. Driven by a desire to honor Gramps and a sense of adventure, Syl chose the latter... only to awaken as a lowly slime. A farmed slime. The life of a farmed slime was cruel. Syl was constantly at the mercy of humans, a slime whose only purpose was to eat and recycle garbage. The threat of lethal core-destroying knives wielded by innocent children was a constant shadow. This was not the life Syl had envisioned. So, they made a daring escape to the wilderness!

Outstanding Monster MC story
Revisado: 01-19-25
Outstanding monster MC book... Smart, likable MC who kills when necessary but never goes overboard. Borderline OP by the end but not in an unrealistic way.

Getting Stronger
Revisado: 11-16-23
Another good addition to the series only this is more of a solo tale where Sam goes off on his own to complete the Astral Titan requirements and gets a whole lot stronger in the process. He was already ahead of the curve strength-wise but this book turns that up to 11. Definitely recommended if you are already enjoying the series.

After the hacker attack that almost killed Kai and his entire team, everyone at Helltek is on edge. Worse, all evidence points to the saboteur being an employee of the company. Kai not only fears for his and his friends’ safety but the suspicion someone close to him might be the one responsible is disturbing. And that’s just one of Kai’s problems.

Usually a Narrator change is terrible...
Revisado: 10-06-22
... But in this case it was not. As listeners usually are, I was very disappointed to see a new narrator mid-series because it almost always throws off the listening experience with new voices, tones, and delivery making for a frustrating transition. This however was not the case in this instance. This series revolves around a relatively small cast of humans, none of which feature particularly odd or unique voices, allowing the new narrator to use his own voices to decently replicate what came before. I could hear the changes immediately but it only took a few minutes before my mind had made the transition and I was able to mostly ignore the change. The tone and delivery were close enough to the original that it was only a minor bump in the road that I was able to quickly adjust to.
The character Topher is inexplicably changed to "Toffer" and the Machine God's voice is not as synthesized as before but these are small issues considering how awful narrator swaps usually are. I definitely recommend that you not let the narrator change keep you from listening... Jared is a talented narrator and you will enjoy his performance as much as the original.

Historia
It is now 100 years since drugs were first banned in the United States. On the eve of this centenary, journalist Johann Hari set off on an epic three-year, 30,000-mile journey into the war on drugs. What he found is that more and more people all over the world have begun to recognize three startling truths: Drugs are not what we think they are. Addiction is not what we think it is. And the drug war has very different motives to the ones we have seen on our TV screens for so long.

A true “MUST READ”
Revisado: 02-09-21
I have been an avid reader all of my life and have considered myself to have been enriched by many books. Despite this, prior to reading “Chasing the Scream” I could never have imagined the depths that my understanding of a subject could be altered. This is especially true since the “war on drugs” and anti-drug programs are something that I have personally participated in since school!
The material was well researched, fairly and easily presented and surprising in more ways than I could have imagined. All leaders/representatives, health care personnel and law enforcement should make a study of this material. I believe that real change in how our society handles the “drug war” as discussed here could begin the repair of so many of the ills of our society.

Historia
On Christmas Eve, 2017, Tess Henry was found dead in a dumpster in Las Vegas. Tess was a 28-year-old new mother, a former honor roll student, and a high school basketball player from suburban Roanoke, Virginia, a place ravaged by the national opioid crisis. The New York Times best-selling author Beth Macy chronicled Tess and her mom, Patricia, through Tess' harrowing, years-long battle to recover from heroin addiction in her award-winning book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company That Addicted America.

An Honest Portrayal, Warts and All
Revisado: 06-11-20
For all of the reviewers harping and griping that Beth Macy and Tess' mother didn't place the blame on the victim/addict enough... YOU JUST DIDN'T GET IT! This book wasn't about whether or not Tess deserved blame for her addiction.
This book was about how easy it can be for people to find themselves addicted through innocent and lawful means and what happens to them afterwards.
A trip to an Urgent Care center for a flu/cold, a routine oral surgery or an accident can be enough for some people to find themselves hopelessly addicted before they're even aware. Opiods are so addictive and for some people they are already predisposed genetically to latch on to that first try even if it is legally prescribed and even with VALID use. Furthermore, this book is about how when ordinary people find themselves in those situations it can be very isolating, devastating and difficult to find consistent, affordable and reliable help to recover.
It seems as if things are now getting better in their community. This change has been thanks in large part to the efforts produced by these two women and their work educating the public and the medical community.
I didn't find it to be a portrayal of them deifying Tess at all. The book readily admitted her faults and flaws at several junctures, never shying away from the painful truth IMO. But that did not mean that they could not and would not miss her and wish that she were still here to be with them and with her son.

Amanda Knox spent four years in a foreign prison for a crime she did not commit. In the fall of 2007, the 20-year-old college coed left Seattle to study abroad in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now.

A truly great listen!
Revisado: 08-06-18
I enjoy listening to the true stories behind the large criminal trials of our modern age. This book was unexpected in so many ways. To realize the depths that this small Italian police force/prosecutor would go in order to make a name for themselves and keep their jobs is shocking. When scientific evidence can so often prove things that are and things that are NOT it's shameful there are some that are willing to overlook justice in order to cover their back sides. Amanda Knox was a great narrator and I'm glad that she told her story in her own voice.

Wow! Way more than I expected!
Revisado: 06-25-18
Most short story compilations are just that, a collection of stories in short form that leaves the reader feeling like they were served a plate full of snack-size candy bars when what they really wanted was a full-course meal... sure, your hunger has been momentarily satiated but you are definitely not left feeling satisfied.
A few of these included stories are definitely snack-size candy bars but the rest of them are as rich and fulfilling as any of the longer novels, with the added bonus that you are given knowledge and insight into the world of Harry Dresden that you were not going to learn by only reading the novel's. And if you have already read all of the stories except Zoo Day, have no fear... it alone is well worth the price of admission and has some surprises that you will not want to miss.

Who wouldn't fall in LOVE with The Rosie Project?
Revisado: 11-13-17
I just loved this book! The story was so FUNNY, fantastic and moving! It opened itself up in a phenomenal manner that let the listener grow along with the characters. The story, pacing and narration were all superb. I highly recommend it to everybody, even those people that wouldn't think that they could like a story about relationships. It doesn't evolve in the traditional manner and gives something to everybody. "AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY"

The editing was poor, clipping off the end of many words, and the story was far-fetched implausible drivel. It killed 20 hours of driving for me but was about as believable as any James Bond movie.
