Abridged version!
Revisado: 04-24-25
The computer voice introduction by ninja reeds is terrible. We need more of a human world comma not a robotic one. While Timothy Snyder's book is excellent and important today, this is an abridged version and timothy has a bad cough during parts of it, making it a poor recording. Get the unabridged book and listen to that or read it.

A poignant story relevant to our times
Revisado: 01-07-25
The story is interesting and complex. However, it seems a bit unreal. As a novel, i believe the author has a right to create imaginative characters and stories. I enjoyed the separate stories of the different characters and the flashbacks mixed with present moments, although, in the beginning, they were hard to follow. These aspects of the novel do make it interesting, and the conclusion utilizes all the different characters and stories, bringing them together in a cohesive way. I admire the way Richard Powell uses his story to inform his readers or his listeners about the perils to our oceans through human pollution, human industry, and global warming due to human energy consumption. The author also uses his story to discuss artificial intelligence and it's potential impossible harm.

Historia
One year after the death of his beloved musician father, thirteen-year-old Benny Oh begins to hear voices. The voices belong to the things in his house—a sneaker, a broken Christmas ornament, a piece of wilted lettuce. Although Benny doesn't understand what these things are saying, he can sense their emotional tone; some are pleasant, a gentle hum or coo, but others are snide, angry and full of pain. When his mother, Annabelle, develops a hoarding problem, the voices grow more clamorous.

Many philosophical and psychological issues our probed. In this well-written, interesting story. I enjoyed the insights into states of mental illness and Zen Buddhism,
and the influence that Zen Buddhism played in the lives of the characters. Having the book itself be a leading character was an interesting twist which provided insightful commentary on the influence of books and literature on humanity.

Historia
The whole of Western natural philosophy is undergoing a sea change, forced upon us by the experimental findings of quantum theory. At the same time, these findings have increased our doubt and uncertainty about traditional physical explanations of the universe's genesis and structure. Biocentrism completes this shift in worldview, turning the planet upside down again with the revolutionary view that life creates the universe instead of the other way around.

Interesting and profound way of looking at the universe
Revisado: 03-30-23
Robert Lanza’s book, Biocentrism, synthesizes concepts from modern physics, and cosmology into an interesting perception that the universe exists only in our minds through our observations. Therefore, if we destroy the habitability for life on this planet, Earth, the universe will not exist unless life exists elsewhere in the universe that can consciously observe it, and bring it into points of singularity.

Excellent writing, story, and narration
Revisado: 09-25-22
The Beekeeper of Aleppo is an excellent piece of literature. The story is highly relevant considering human migrations that are happening because of oppressive, authoritarian regimes that are willing to express cruelty and acts of terror on their citizenry to maintain power. The compassion towards migrants that is evoked through the characters and their experiences and challenges is what we should be fostering towards immigrants, not hatred and disdain. Compassion heals our wounds and unites us.

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Great writing, especially dialogue
Revisado: 08-06-22
An interesting story that diverges iaway from reality so far that it distracts from the story in the very end. However, it has the characteristics of a great story and the writing is excellent, especially the dialogue. The philosophical banter is extremely interesting, especially if one is prone to many questions in this life. The performance is excellent, almost like being in a theater.

Historia
Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written. Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Contradictory ramblings of a narcissist
Revisado: 07-28-22
Nietzsche, in Beyond Good and Evil, sounds like a narcissist who sees himself as a member of a small group of intellectual elites who understands all the contradictions in the world, while he himself expresses contradiction after contradiction in his writings. His writing is full of cynicism, yet he disparages cynicism and cynics. He disparages artists, philosophers and writers, while later praising them. The book is the blathering of a mentally disturbed man who died young of mental illness. Why he is considered to be a great philosopher is beyond me. I think he should be put on the back shelves of our libraries since he is not relevant to our times or the problems we face today.

Great story and wonderfully narrated
Revisado: 07-13-22
This story is written like a classic from Dicken’s or other great writers. The narration is excellent and creates the atmosphere of listening to a play on stage. My reservation in my overall rating is because of the ending which I think is stereotyping black culture in a manner that is demeaning, while it would’ve been much better had Paris’s son been elevated through his intelligence inherited both from his mother and father.

Historia
The critically acclaimed novelist and social critic Aldous Huxley, describes his personal experimentation with the drug mescaline and explores the nature of visionary experience. The title of this classic comes from William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell: "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite. For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks of his cavern."

This accounting by Aldous Huxley of his experiences on mescaline, the hallucinogenic derivative of peyote, is interesting and insightful. It inspires me to be more acutely aware of my experience with or without help from other substances.
