Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Preston & Child never disappoint
Revisado: 04-12-21
I really like this book. I thought not having Pendergast would be disappointing but these two gals are great. Also this book has two of my favorite things — the southwest and treasure hunting. A great book to listen to on a long drive.

Historia
A fascinating glimpse into the life of Lady Elinor de Lacey, the illegitimate daughter of Queen Elizabeth I, that will appeal to fans of Tudor era historical fiction. Secreted away from the woman who gave birth to her, Elinor de Lacey is raised in blissful ignorance in the English countryside by a beloved and forward-thinking father, and a loving but remote mother. After her father's death, Elinor defies her mother's wishes and accepts an invitation to become a lady-in-waiting to Elizabeth I in London.

Couldn’t stand the narration
Revisado: 02-06-19
I should have listened to the sample first. It is read in a hesitant, whispery voice. I couldn’t get past chapter 2.

Terrible narrator
Revisado: 05-15-18
I love this series & have read all the books. I decided to listen to this last one before the new book came out. What a mistake! The narrator has a terrible accent (totally wrong), and her reading cadence is choppy. I thought I could make it thru, but I can’t. I will try to return it.
