Historia
The Earth’s navy is left drifting among the stars as Nyctus ships swarm, their purpose unknown as they continue their advance, burning one system after another. Humanity's extinction seems inevitable. But on one of the forgotten worlds, a boy is left behind, and he holds a talent unlike anything the galaxy has ever known. Thorn Stellers is a mage, trained to lead and fight. With a renegade division of warriors at his side, and with weapons far different from those of old Earth, Thorn has a chance at standing up to humanity's enemies.

wow disappointing
Revisado: 02-25-25
interesting concept and had real potential but there was almost no struggle for the main character. Ya life was hard for him growing up but then he just figures out how to become godlike with pretty much zero effort. Everyone senior to him just accept everything he says and gives him no push back. This war has been going on for 30 years and still humans are still sitting with their thumbs up their ass. I'm surprised they haven't had him in a Superman costume flying through space without a suit yet.

Then I go to stay at my aunt's while starting college, and she's killed because of me, her home invaded by demons, and I learn there is so much more going on in the world than I could have ever understood. Throw in a couple of gargoyles and me unlocking an ancient path to insane amounts of magic, and you have my story. Be careful, though, as it's not for the prude at heart.

I felt compelled to warn people how bad this is
Revisado: 10-20-24
This is just garbage. I'm surprised this got published.
First, I get that this is supposedly a genre involving harems but the main character thinks about his penis about as much as 15 year old boy surging in hormones.
Second, the story is ridiculous..oh I just discovered magic..look I'm better at it than anyone else 5 min later.
I rarely stop a book without finishing, even if it don't really care for it. This one I'm giving up 3/4 through the box set. I'll go put on a porn parody and get the same thing.

Historia
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

worth listening because the story is decent
Revisado: 05-12-24
Almost returned because the recording sounds like it was done on a talkboy from Home Alone and then whoever was supposed to edit recording just gave it to his 15 year old kid to do it. Seriously did absolutely no one listen to it before approving it was done?
The story was enjoyable and the narration was pretty good despite being just a tad fast. Some parts were almost comically repetitive and other parts just ramble on. I'm hoping the author grows a bit throughout the next books in the series.

Like the book but tired of the same old characters
Revisado: 05-22-23
So from the last 20 books from CJ Box I can see that ALL small town law enforcement are corrupt, stupid, good ol boys. I'm glad to see that's the perception we're pushing here. Rural equals ignorance apparently. As a suggestion, how bout changing the plot slightly.

great story but awful love story plot
Revisado: 01-23-23
I liked the overall plot and writing style but I almost stopped reading due to the same exact repetitive and terrible love story. The damaged girl chasing after a toxic relationship going back and forth on what she wants. Sorry it's just too much of a high school cliche.

Historia
When I first landed a bartending job at the local guild, I didn't know a thing about magic. These days, I'm practically an expert on the different magical classes, but there's one nobody ever talks about: Demonica. Turns out they have a good reason for that. My guild is strictly hellion-free, because who wants to risk life and limb to control the biggest bullies on the mythic playground? Well, some people do, and now a demon has been loosed in the city. My three best friends are determined to slay it, but even badass combat mages are critically out-magicked.

Tried to like this one
Revisado: 01-14-23
I like the series but the author needs go rub one out before writing. I have no issue with sexually charged scenes, and expect some from the author, but this book sounds like it was written by a 14 year old horny school girl. I don't think there's 3 consecutive pages without some comment to someone's ripped muscles or other physical focused cliche. Now I know you see male writers fall into this same issue all the time but even considering this, it's blazingly more apparent here.
Tone that down sa bit and it would be a lot more enjoyable.

Once again Michael Crichton gives us his trademark combination of page-turning suspense, cutting-edge technology, and extraordinary research. State of Fear is a superb blend of edge-of-your-seat suspense and thought provoking commentary on how information is manipulated in the modern world.

I love Douglas E. Richards but...
Revisado: 07-06-21
I have absolutely loved the complexity and tech of all Richard's books but this one was too much...the end revalation was a F you to readers in my opinion. I don't want to dive too much into it as it's still definitely worth reading. This one will just sit as my least favorite so far out of the more than a dozen of his books read.

Well written and always captivating
Revisado: 11-11-18
This feature from Jonathan Maberry was a bit less satisfying than the first two but still a good read. The whole 7 Kings organization was a bit harder to believe than previous evil organizations from the author. The internal struggles from members of the organization felt rushed but I could see it being boring if he had taken the time to fully lay it out so I guess rushed was better. I'm not sure if it was just me but this story was less satisfying and didn't have enough resolution for the time invested in it.
