Historia
Rufus Leung Gresham, future Earl of Greshambury and son of a former Hong Kong supermodel has a problem: the legendary Gresham Trust has been depleted by decades of profligate spending, and behind all the magazine covers and Instagram stories manors and yachts lies nothing more than a gargantuan mountain of debt. The only solution, put forth by Rufus’s scheming mother, is for Rufus to attend his sister’s wedding at a luxury eco-resort, a veritable who’s-who of sultans, barons, and oligarchs, and seduce a woman with money.

Historia
Long overshadowed by Japan and China, South Korea is a small country that happens to be one of the great national success stories of the postwar period. From a failed state with no democratic tradition, ruined and partitioned by war, and sapped by a half-century of colonial rule, South Korea transformed itself in just 50 years into an economic powerhouse and a democracy that serves as a model for other countries. With no natural resources and a tradition of authoritarian rule, Korea managed to accomplish a second Asian miracle.

Great thorough book on Korea
Revisado: 02-04-24
Very thorough book on South Korea that is a must for anyone interested in the country. That said, it feels dated in parts (current affairs and entertainment sections) as it gives too many details and examples that are now completely out of date. The delivery was a bit monotonous but then this is not an action book. Overall, an excellent take on Korea.

Best Kpop novel series
Revisado: 01-17-23
Very much enjoyed this book and the first in the series. The story was the most compelling of all the Kpop novels I’ve read. Highly recommend if you’re into Korea or Kpop. Performance was excellent too.

Historia
As a child growing up in North Korea, Hyeonseo Lee was one of millions trapped by a secretive and brutal communist regime. Her home on the border with China gave her some exposure to the world beyond the confines of the Hermit Kingdom and, as the famine of the 1990s struck, she began to wonder, question and realise that she had been brainwashed her entire life. Given the repression, poverty and starvation she witnessed surely her country could not be, as she had been told, 'the best on the planet'?

Very interesting book
Revisado: 10-05-22
Not as enjoyable as Night Tiger. The ending feels abrupt and unsatisfying, hopefully because it opens the door to a sequel. I can’t wait for more books from this brilliant author. The stories are entertaining, refreshingly different and very well written. Also looking forward to watching the TV series based on this book. Very much hope Night Tiger is also made into a series and has a sequel.

Absolutely fantastic book! Loved the mix of love, supernatural and suspense set against the exotic background of British colonial era in Malaysia. Characters are really well developed. Couldn’t put it down. The reading is performed by the author herself and is outstanding! Very refreshing all around. Can’t wait for the sequel and other books from this brilliant author!

Historia
Izumi Tanaka has never really felt like she fit in - it isn’t easy being Japanese American in her small, mostly White, northern California town. Raised by a single mother, it’s always been Izumi - or Izzy, because “it’s easier this way” - and her mom against the world. But then Izumi discovers a clue to her previously unknown father’s identity...and he’s none other than the Crown Prince of Japan. Which means outspoken, irreverent Izzy is literally a princess.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Long advertisement

The long and uninformative advertisement that takes most of the book is a serious turn-off. Book 2 is the same. Life is too short for this.
