Historia
Millions of Amor Towles fans are in for a treat as he shares some of his shorter fiction: six stories based in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. The New York stories, most of which take place around the year 2000, consider the fateful consequences that can spring from brief encounters and the delicate mechanics of compromise that operate at the heart of modern marriages.

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Revisado: 03-31-24
This was a fun, fast, wild adventure that was just enough over the top to keep me from getting sidetracked by any narrative holes. Really enjoyed the characters and the intrigue!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

What a lovely story!
Revisado: 03-19-24
With the exception of Cameron’s character, who is ridiculously juvenile for a 30-year-old, the characters are interesting and compelling. The octopus, of course, steals the show.

Historia
January, 2003. Together with the usual holiday cards, an anonymous postcard is delivered to the Berest family home. On the front, a photo of the Opéra Garnier in Paris. On the back, the names of Anne Berest’s maternal great-grandparents, Ephraïm and Emma, and their children, Noémie and Jacques—all killed at Auschwitz. Fifteen years after the postcard is delivered, Anne, the heroine of this novel, is moved to discover who sent it and why.

Remarkable and moving
Revisado: 03-14-24
What an intriguing and deeply moving story - beautifully told. Honoring this history is vital, and the author and her mother did an amazing job reconstructing their family’s experiences.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

When’s the Next Installment??
Revisado: 09-16-23
Kate Reading is masterful narrating this series. I don’t think I’d enjoy reading these sometimes tedious and wordy stories as much as listening to them - thanks to Kate. That being said, the series continued to be solid and I very much look forward to Sherry Thomas’ next installment - with Kate Reading narrating!

Not her best
Revisado: 06-24-23
I am a Jackson fan but this story fell short for me. I found the main character and her family to be … annoying and exhausting. Had I read/listened to it 10 years ago when it was first released perhaps I’d feel differently.
