like my brothers
Revisado: 10-31-22
Ron Howard and his brother Clint grew up when I did. Their story covers very familiar territory even though they grew up in show business. the story is honest and humble . I am grateful they took the time to write it and to narrate it.

Historia
In July 1952, Dr. Walter Freeman arrived at the gates of a West Virginia asylum. In his medical bag he carried two metal picks and a surgical hammer. He had invented a “cheap, easy” ten-minute lobotomy. The press described it as a miracle cure, a new frontier in psychosurgery. That summer, in just twelve days, Freeman lobotomized 228 men, women, and children in West Virginia’s public mental hospitals. His blitzkrieg of brain surgery became known as “Operation Ice Pick,” named after the tools he wielded.

Thousands of people left in limbo by scam artist
Revisado: 09-04-22
I loved listening to it at double speed. Narrator spoke slowly and clearly. The book itself was repetitive as was the procedure. Pointed out necessity for objective, 3rd party assessment of results even for Nobel Prize nominees. Also emphasized role of charisma and relationship in relationships, used in this situation to mask the truth and justify the doctor's treatment to himself.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Get past the F word and you will find redemption
Revisado: 07-04-22
A story of abuse met by courage, racism combated by empowering indifference to the racist`s words and actions, treatment of failure and suffering as treasured opportunities to learn, grow, heal and improve. Physical feats of endurance beyond measure. Leadership recognized even by those totally against his success. David meets his Goliath outside himself and especially inside, finally discovering how to stretch his body, mind and spirit to a deep and overwhelming healing gratitude for a well lived life before his God.
