Historia
Robodebt was a new debt-creation system that was used to illegally pursue close to half a million Australian welfare recipients for fake debts generated by the thousands. It was described by the Royal Commission's report as a 'massive failure of public administration' caused by 'venality, incompetence and cowardice'. Essentially, Australians were gaslit by their own government, which doggedly and knowingly concocted a program that was both mathematically wrong and illegal, just to shake down innocent people for money, then lied about it for four and a half years.

The arrogance of Robodebt
Revisado: 12-20-24
Beware. This book will have you swearing at how the Australian people were treated by those in power, either in the public service, or in politics.
An amazing journey through the setup of the scheme and how, despite its illegality, the magic words of "welfare cheats" enabled these people to run roughshod over fellow Australians, with the Robodebt scheme that stole money, time, and even lives.
A must read for all Australians.

Historia
Sex workers in 19th-century Melbourne were judged morally corrupt by the respectable world around them. But theirs was a thriving trade, with links to the police and political leaders of the day, and the leading brothels were usually managed by women. While today a popular bar and a city lane are famously named after Madame Brussels, the identities of the other ‘flash madams’, the ‘dressed girls’ who worked for them and the hundreds of women who solicited on the streets of the Little Lon district of Melbourne are not remembered.

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Amazing story with a brilliant narration
Revisado: 05-02-24
Richard Armitage does an outstanding task of bringing each of Dickens's characters to life. I cried when certain characters died and I was almost yelling at my phone waiting for other characters to receive their comeuppance.
I thoroughly recommend this edition.

Interesting material, but . . .
- De Mark en 12-29-17
Good subject, poor narration
Revisado: 01-09-23
This series was an excellent breakdown of historical trials and was very informative and educational. However, it was let down by the author/narrator seemingly just reading along with the PDF. Other lecturers present their works as actual lectures, whereas this one seemed little more than reading a book.
Other than this I do recommend it.

Horrendous accents
Revisado: 12-23-22
I love this series and have read it a couple of times in paperback. However, the American narrator can't do Australian accents, and even the British ones are hard to deal with. Like fingernails down a blackboard. It really took away from being in the story when he didn't seem to figure out if he was meant to be speaking Australian, New Zealand, or South African.

Historia
During the 229-year period from 1485 to 1714, England transformed itself from a minor feudal state into what has been called "the first modern society" and emerged as the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world. Those years hold a huge and captivating story. The English survived repeated epidemics and famines, one failed invasion and two successful ones, two civil wars, a series of violent religious reformations and counter-reformations, and confrontations with two of the most powerful monarchs on earth.

On 25 April 1915, Allied forces landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in present-day Turkey to secure the sea route between Britain and France in the west and Russia in the east. After eight months of terrible fighting, they would fail. Turkey regards the victory to this day as a defining moment in its history, a heroic last stand in the defence of the nation's Ottoman Empire.

Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden. Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television "family."
