The Book Is Amazing But The Narrator...

I have no quibble with the story - it's wonderful. But something was off about the sound editing of the narration. It was like it was spliced together and the narrator (in this case, the author) sounded like a slightly different person. Did he have a cold? Allergies? A dry throat from talking so much? I don't know. But it was jarring enough that it was noticeable & a distraction.

Sanctimonious, Not Uplifting

I have owned this audio book for 3 Christmas seasons. Every year, I start to try it again, and every year I am turned off by how "holier-than-thou" it comes across, sanctimonious (almost smug in tone!). It's not encouraging or uplifting. Given the horrid allegations (which I personally believe to be true) against Bill Hybels by numerous women, I can't stand to listen to anything written by him. (On a side note, I didn't know who Bill Hybels was prior to purchasing this audiobook). Also, the "awe shucks" drawl of the narrator is off putting. Pass on this audiobook.
