Poor Quality
Revisado: 12-29-24
Granted this is from an old radio show but the sound quality while driving is so poor that I was unable to hear anything that anyone other than the main character says. Rather like listening to one side of a telephone conversation. I gave up at around the 8 minute mark.

Historia
After her father was killed at Pearl Harbor, Emily Valkenberg joined the Navy so she could get revenge. When she's denied the opportunity to sail with the fleet, she volunteers for duty as a dragon pilot, where the life expectancy is measured in weeks, not years. Dragon Fleet Five is a YA historical fantasy where Emily takes part in some of the fiercest of the Pacific Campaign, including Midway and Guadalcanal, and encounters a few of the warriors and leaders who changed the course of history.

Disappointing
Revisado: 09-17-21
This story is a retelling of the attack on Pearl Harbour and Battle of Midway from the perspective of the first female pilot to participate. In this story though the characters use dragons instead of aircraft.
The author's use of dragons is disappointing as he has simply swapped the word 'aircraft' for 'dragon' with the pilots still using joy sticks, cockpits etc while the dragons still need a runway to reach the 100 mph required for take off. The author does little to explore the idea of using dragons instead of aircraft (the latter do not exist) and the dragons are merely portrayed as an intelligent means of transportation, little else.
The story itself is written to hold interest which it does well but unfortunately the lack of development in use of dragons overshadows this.
Sound quality is good and the author sounds a little young but does an acceptable job.
Strictly for young adults. I will not be reading the next one in the series.

A Must for Younger Fantasy Lovers
Revisado: 10-08-20
This novella tells the story of Nath a young (200 year old) half dragon trying to earn his scales and assume his true dragon form. To do this he needs to perform "good deeds" for dragons without killing anyone.
The plot is uncomplicated and the writing style simple due to the intended audience. For teens and older children, this book deserves a 5 star rating however for adults, although an enjoyable adventure, it only rates 4 stars.
The narrator does an excellent job of adapting his reading to the circumstances. The story is a dramatised version (has sound effects and music) which probably will be popular with younger listeners and some adults. Personally I would have preferred the story without. If the effects annoy, simply increase the player speed which will take care of the issue.
This audiobook is a nice way to pass a few hours.

Historia
Brutally defeated by the blood shaman Gomrung, Paul and his party are taken captive and sent on a journey to Lutdor, the orc capital. To the orcs, they are nothing more than sacks of blood to be spilt on Vasla's altar during high festival. Accompanying them is an elf princess with an icy personality, aloof even in battle and reluctant to share any knowledge of the Wild. The march goes awry when they come across an enchanted willow tree feasting on decomposing corpses and an elven outpost in flames.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
Revisado: 08-03-20
This story picks up directly where the previous part ended and proves itself to be even better than the first part. Captured by Orcs and with only days to live before being sacrificed, Paul's plight and the fate of his party seems hopeless. Escaping the Orcs is only the beginning of their troubles as they struggle to escape the war between the Elves and the Orcs without getting caught in the middle.
Once again it is the unusual character class that absolutely makes this Tactical LITRPG work a pleasure to read. The story pulses with adventure and the reader is once again caught up and transported to another world, along with the MC.
Sound quality is good and the narrator does a most satisfactory job.
The story is incomplete but does not contain sex or cliff hangers.
Recommend.

Excellent Fantasy LitRpg
Revisado: 07-03-20
What starts off as the usual run of the mill rich kid moves to new town scenario soon turns off into a fast paced adventure where the action in their real world is as exciting as their adventure happening in game. Our MC is literally lost in game, well part of her at least and needs to find her knight in shining armour to help her rescue her soul...before the Dark Faerie use it to invade the real world, killing her and doom the world.
Sound quality is good and the narrator is more than up to the task, doing a successful job.
The story contains no swearing or adult situations and is recommended for listeners of all ages. No cliffhangers but the story does continue.

He longs for the day when he comes of age and can leave home to pursue his dreams of taming Djinn. Unfortunately for Jackson, dreams and reality don’t always coincide. To help his grandmother make ends meet, Jackson spends his days doing manual labor on a breeder’s ranch - just about as far removed from the bright lights and roaring crowds of the DBL (Djinn Battle League) as it gets.

Unexpected Storyline
Revisado: 05-28-20
A whiney teenager is given a djin by his deceased mother and enters the world of djin fighting in an effort stop the bank foreclosing on his grandmother's house.
This story really surprised me as the plot certainly didn't go the way that was anticipated which really was pleasantly unexpected. The djin fighting was unusual and interesting, think Pokemon type duel, the annoying teenager grew up fast and ceased to be annoying, and the storyline, well that would be giving the game away.
The narrator does a good job but his whiney teenager impression just about drove me nuts. At least it does not continue throughout. Sound quality was good and the book whispersyncs effortlessly between audiobook and ebook.
Probably aimed at yound adults, this story does not contain anything of a sexual nature nor swearing. Although the story does continue, this book is self contained and can be read as a stand alone.

Enjoyable Post Apocalyptic LitRpg
Revisado: 05-23-20
Once again the narrator does a wonderful job of reading this story which picks up directly where the last part left off. The first half is slow and drags a little while Ryan is stuck in Shasha's head as a mere passenger. The second half is far better providing many much needed explanations about what the nefarious organisation DeepDive is up to. The actions ramp up until the story ends with a cliffhanger.
Recommended.

Pure Reading Pleasure
Revisado: 05-13-20
This audiobook is such a pleasant surprise. The interesting premise, MC joins online game to pay off an inherited debt, might tempt listeners to try it but it the story itself and the author's laugh out loud writing style that makes this 13 hour audiobook an absolute joy to listen to. Once immersed in the game world, the MC has to find her feet while leveling up as fast as she can. The idea being to find/make in game items that she can sell back in the real world to pay her debts. The online world she finds herself in is one of quests, warriors and mages as well as dangerous monsters and interesting characters.
Nowhere does the story drag but instead progresses at a well balanced pace throughout. The narrator is absolutely perfect, painting a picture of the online gaming world with her voice.
This story does not contain any cliffhangers however it is definitely incomplete and requires the next book in the series. Recommended.

A Charming Story
Revisado: 05-03-20
In a land where the king enslaves any San Ceo (people who can shift into animal form) for his army, a young girl is forced to forsake her family and flee to avoid capture. Years later she is asked by a young raven shifter to help her rescue his shifter family from the king who has captured them.
This gentle story is well paced throughout and never drags. The author has a good, clear writing style making it both an easy and pleasant read.
The narrator does an excellent job and her style suits the story. The audiobook book syncs nicely with the ebook so one can listen or read as one prefers. Due to the narrator's skill the audiobook is nicer than the ebook.
The story is obviously continued in the second book but does not contain a cliffhanger. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Dark Epic Fantasy
Revisado: 04-30-20
This epic fantasy novel is written in a slow, descriptive storytelling style that is so typical of the genre. What isn't so typical is the length, it clocks in at just over 8 hours compared to the usual expected trilogy that comes out of a story like this.
Unfortunately this story is very dark making it recommended for adults only. The scenes in the cave contain scenes of graphic violence and torture. This is made worse by the MC seeming to be a young elf. She acts like she is about 14 by human standards, adding child abuse to the list of horrors.
It is unusual that a male narrator is used when the MC is female but he tries his hard to deliver a good performance. Unfortunately when he starts a new paragraph, he doesn't pause quite long enough making some of the paragraphs flow one into the other and leaving the listener a bit confused.
I really did not enjoy this audiobook, it was way too dark for my tastes even if it is not gratuitous violence. A training exercise where a boy is burned to death slowly to teach Zelia (our MC) a lesson ended any chance there was of me finishing it.
