Historia
The modern materialist approach to life has conspicuously failed to explain such central mind-related features of our world as consciousness, intentionality, meaning, and value. This failure to account for something so integral to nature as mind, argues philosopher Thomas Nagel, is a major problem, threatening to unravel the entire naturalistic world picture, extending to biology, evolutionary theory, and cosmology. Since minds are features of biological systems that have developed through evolution, the standard materialist version of evolutionary biology is fundamentally incomplete.

False logic throughout
Revisado: 05-09-23
I was hoping for a new way of looking at the universe, but was disappointed. As a person that has both an engineer degree and science degree, and a follower of Buckminster Fuller, I thought there would be more of the underlying structure of the universe. Unfortunately, his theories are based on the gaps in current scientific knowledge. And the argument goes that because science hasn't solved all the mysteries of the world, science must be wrong and something else must be going on. So far, so good, I was ready for the revelation - that never came. That was it. The author kept pounding in that science doesn't have all the answers, albeit with examples, yet offered no evidence to support his argument. Science has never claimed to have all the answers, just continuously better ways of looking at the world around us. The whole premise of this book is flawed.

Historia
Science is humanity's greatest achievement. It ranges from the study of the universe itself to the smallest particles of matter contained within it - and everything in between. If you want to better understand our physical world, as most of us do, gaining a basic understanding of science itself is profoundly important - yet many are intimidated by the breathtaking scope of such an endeavor. Now an award-winning science teacher has taken out the intimidation, harnessing that breathtaking scope into a series of 60 exciting, comprehensive, and accessible lectures.

Well rounded presentation of major topics
Revisado: 04-11-20
Great unbiased presentation of the major disciplines of science. Particularly appreciated tying in different disciplines, such as how the evidence of plate techtonics was corroborated by geology, paleontology, and volcanology.
