Superbly done. This touched me and brought me back to all parts of this that played out for me my whole adult life. Superb writing. Outstanding narration. I will listen to anything Leon does. Thank you thank you thank you. You filled in all the gaps in what I knew and touched me in many ways. I am a better person for listening to this.

I love the book and will continue to read this in Kindle version. But bought both the Kindle version and the Audible version to do through “whisper-sync”. But they do not sync up. The narrated version would not download in Kindle. And the chapter headings don’t match up. So you can’t in fact go back and forth between reading and listening. Drove me crazy and wasted tons of time trying to find where you left off.
The narrator was only “decent”. I didn’t mind the saliva and throat sounds as much as others, and yes she was on the bland side, but it wasn’t that bad.
Great book. But either read it or listen to it, don’t try to go back and forth.....

Historia
The year is 1896, the place, New York City. On a cold March night New York Times reporter John Schuyler Moore is summoned to the East River by his friend and former Harvard classmate Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a psychologist, or "alienist." On the unfinished Williamsburg Bridge, they view the horribly mutilated body of an adolescent boy, a prostitute from one of Manhattan's infamous brothels.

This is a fabulous story and the narration is the best I have experienced. Not only does the narrator excel at ‘acting’ out much of the dialogue, he is uniquely good at adopting a specific voice for each speaking character. Alters the speed of the dialogue like an actor would, when necessary. I saw The Alienist on TNT when it came out and absolutely loved everything about the story, characters and especially the filming. Beautiful! The sequel is coming out on TV in two weeks, so decided to read/listen to The Alienist to bring me back to speed on the story. And wow, no wonder it was a huge bestseller. It is written phenomenally. And the narration is more than mere narration. It is truly story telling. Highly recommend!!! Yes this is a murder investigation, but much more than that. It is fabulous period piece, with gorgeous and factual description of New York in late 1890’s. Recommend for any history buff! Can’t wait for the sequel on TV (“The Angel of Darkness”)
