I really enjoyed listening to Rob Sheffield read his own book. There’s definitely some new information in here that I hadn’t heard before, so content wise, this is a pretty deep dive. Hearing him read even the timeline at the beginning was an experience I wouldn’t have had if I’d only picked the book up in print. I felt it when he leaned into the rhythmic recurrence of “…and the media talked about her boyfriends” after so many milestones on the timeline.

Happily, the boyfriends are relegated primarily to the timeline. Sheffield really gives us something new to sink our teeth into.

I happen to think Matty Healy has been a much greater influence on her music, and over a longer period of time, than Sheffield. She tells us in “Fresh Out The Slammer”, that“she swirled you into all of my poems”. “You” is Matty of course. But that’s most beautiful things about being a car-magnet-sporting-Swifty, we all get to draw our own conclusions.

It was an earnest performance of the text, very emotive. I definitely wept a bit as I listened, and, if I’m not mistaken, his voice sounded a little choked up in a smattering of the tender bits. I’m really glad I got to hear him reading this! I am still going to need a print copy, because this thing is an excellent reference! It’s not super easy to flip through an audio book.

It’s an engaging piece of writing, and I absolutely expect to listen again! It’s worth that. Well done!

Rosamund Pike performs a brilliant reading of this classic favorite. I relisten to this often, and enjoy it every time.

It’s so sensual, and fills your senses. As a lover of art, food, music and literature, I loved following the traces amongst creative works that Addie manages to find ways to leave. it’s easy to identify with Addie’s ability to see beauty and find joy one second at a time, but those same qualities, the things that make creative people feel too much make it easy to identity with Henry. The contrast and similarities between Henry and Addie is so perfect. Their personalities and curses are a paradoxical dichotomy. I’d describe it more like Yen-Yang than Russian nesting dolls. Some parts of the plot I saw coming, but I didn’t mind, because the story-telling was still so rich, and woven like a beautiful tapestry. Besides, I’m very hard to catch with a plot twist. The relationship between Addie and Luc persistently reminds me of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara in GWTW. They have an ongoing adversarial attraction. (Admittedly there are also obvious differences)

I see the book as an anti-suicide anthem. Even the barista Vanessa has an infinity tattoo on her wrist. It’s a book, that at the age of 53, I’d like to travel in time and give to my teenage self.

I had a real struggle with the romance in the Twilight books. It has never made sense to me that an entity who is centuries old could fall for a teenager. This book makes something similar possible and believable. Addie and Henry are both starving for love in their own way, making them together inevitable.

I loved it. I loved it. I loved it.

This and Audrey Nefinegger’s The Time Travelers Wife are my 2 favorite books ever

A tiny criticism about the overuse of, “perhaps” and, “and yet” But that is minor finesse, and because I’ve listened to it so many times

I listened to this entire book in one go, I couldn’t stop. The world is a better, safer place because Elliot Page has gifted us with this book.

My goal is to continuously work towards creating an even safer, more open space for the youth theatre I preside over, for having had the privilege to listen to this book.

I got the audio book for myself, and had only listened to a few minutes when I stopped, paused the audio, and immediately ordered a hard copy which I had shipped directly to my 16 year old daughter who is away at summer camp. It’s a brilliant book, and I can think of one or two folks who ought to be required to listen to it.

This is just a marvelous work. I would say that listening g to this book evoked a roller coaster ride of anguish, empathy, fear, self loathing, and also genuine abundant self love. Thank you Elliot Page ❤️‍🩹!

Authentic personal connection to Trauma Survival

This book may be the most profound connection I've ever felt to the genuine trauma to True Crime. The summer before I turned 15, I had a school mate who was brutally murdered by stabbing in her own home, along with her sister and a visiting friend., which was about 2 miles from my house. I've been intrigued by crime stories ever since. Although not as close in relation as a father daughter bond.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this book is different from main stream true crime story sources most often available. It's genuinely Kerri's story. She delves deeply into the relationship she had/has with her father. In contrast she chooses to only cursorily share the nuts and bolts of her father's crimes, and says in the brief interview . I am a regular steady consumer of true crime, but the emotion in this was so authentic. I was more moved by this book than any other true crime source I've since

My predominant critique is of the narrator. Others have compared her to sounding like she's reading to children who are sitting on a carpet in a semi-circle. It was too sing-song, and I am certain she occasionally misunderstood the meaning of what she was reading, because her emphasis on particular words was odd to guarantee clarity of purpose.

If you understand that Ms. Rawson has no interest in going over each of her father's crimes, as I did, given the title, this book fits the bill. The book is her opportunity to tell her side of the story: what was life like growing up?, and how she did the hard work to move past biggest emotional triggers, and is living with PTSD. And now she has flipped the script supporting others.

Difficult to get through because of the plot very depressing would not recommend although a lot of other books by Kate Myron are very good.
