Engaging Redemption Story
Revisado: 09-14-22
I won this audiobook through a giveaway in a Facebook group. This is a new- to- me author, and I will definitely be checking out other books she has written.
The heroine in the book has had a rough time of it in the first part of the book after running away from home with her boyfriend to seek their fortune out West. Things go from bad to worse, and Tabitha ends up spending many years in about the worst possible situation. This first section of the story was a bit hard to get through due to the heartbreaking situation Tabitha finds herself in. Just be aware that the author tackles a tough topic here. it may not be a story you want to read to your young teenagers.
At any rate, we see the progression of events until Tabitha meets Jesus. Through the rest of the book, Tabitha is living a life transformed, but she has plenty of challenges to face. The fact that she spends part of that time in England is a plus.
Not only was this a good story, but it also encouraged me spiritually. Give it a try.

A Roller Coaster Ride
Revisado: 11-23-19
Stevie Zimmerman did an excellent job as usual narrating this angsty tale by Joana Starnes. I very much enjoyed listening to it, though I must admit, the angst in the middle was pretty rough...for both Darcy and Elizabeth, and me.
Taking place after the Hunsford proposal, this story has Darcy travelling by himself, trying to let out his feelings. Lizzy is traveling north with the Gardiners. A storm causes all of them to meet at a remote inn. D and L get an unusual chance to talk in private, and it looks like they are going to have a second chance at happiness together. In fact, circumstances are such that Darcy travels north with the group, and they have a lovely time leisurely traveling to Pemberley, enjoying the sights. But then Elizabeth receives terrible news from Jane, and everything unravels. She feels the need to break things off yet again, and this time the separation is much worse.
While both of them deal with the separation in their own ways, they again meet when it is least expected. The pain and awkwardness is acute. Will those two ever be able to get to the truth of things? (Don't worry. The answer is yes. Be thankful for annoying matchmaking aunts and cozy book rooms.)
This is definitely an engaging story with some great new characters. I loved the Monkford sisters and their part of the story.

Historia
Set in English society before the 1832 Reform Bill, Wives and Daughters centers on the story of youthful Molly Gibson, brought up from childhood by her father. When he remarries, a new stepsister enters Molly's quiet life, the loveable, but worldly and troubling, Cynthia. The narrative traces the development of the two girls into womanhood within the gossiping and watchful society of Hollingford.

Wonderful story, expertly narrated
Revisado: 10-15-18
I love Gaskell's stories. I am transported to another time and place, and the characters are so well written. The added dimension of Nadia May's reading makes the experience even better. She interpreted the voices so well.
This story has both humor and drama, and it drew me in. Just one warning. Gaskell did not quite finish the book, although there is commentary about Gaskell's intentions. I had seen the miniseries before listening to this, and that helps fill in the blanks too. Even without the ending, this is definitely a heartfelt, worthwhile story.

Engaging Story
Revisado: 05-20-17
I listened to this while on my commute and it definitely made my drive more enjoyable. I felt the narration was spot-on, and the wide variety of characters was interesting. Certain characters made me think of other characters in book and film. Sir Timothy made me think of the squire in Lark Rise to Candleford and the mother of Mr. Ashford made me think of John Thornton's mother in North and South. I plan to continue reading this series, as I am invested in the rich cast of characters.

Historia
Elizabeth Gaskell's comic portrait of early Victorian life in a country town describes with poignant wit the uneventful lives of its lady-like inhabitants, offering an ironic commentary on the separate spheres and diverse experiences of men and women. As the external world necessarily impinges even on Cranford, the unlikely juxtapositions of old and new brought about by the pace of change are also explored.

Sweet Slice-of- Life Story
Revisado: 02-23-17
If you're looking for a quick -paced page turner, this is not it. However, this is a sweet story telling of the everyday life in a very small town. I found it very endearing, with little parts that made me laugh and other parts that made me sigh. The narrator does a good job portraying the different characters. You will be touched by this glimpse into the life of Miss Maddie and her fellow townspeople.

Very Enjoyable "What If" Story
Revisado: 01-05-17
I loved reading this series looking at what might have happened if Darcy had a mentor who encouraged him to better act upon the good principles he knew were right, and what might have happened if Lizzy and her sisters worked to counteract Lydia's stupid behavior. This second book in the series focuses on the Bennet family right before Collins comes to visit and before Bingley comes to Netherfield. It 's a journey of discovery for Elizabeth, and it's nice to see the four oldest sisters work together to encourage their different gifts as they face challenges thrown their way. The ending of the story is delightful, as Lizzy is able to be her shining self, after some trying times.
I really enjoyed the narration of this story, which definitely brought the story to life even more.

Historia
How do Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet overcome the consequences of poor decisions made by their fathers when Darcy and Elizabeth were young? In A Father's Sins, Mr. George Darcy, father of an illegitimate child raised by his steward, Mr. Wickham, agreed with his wife, Anne, that the firstborn son of their marriage would be heir to Pemberley. However, Mr. Darcy loved his eldest son, George Wickham, and indulged him by bringing him to Pemberley to live after the death of his wife.

I enjoyed the story, although it was hard to have Mr. Bennet acting the way he did. Of course, it allowed Lizzy to grow into the accomplished woman of this story. Loved this Darcy, as well as the Gardiners. Definitely a worthwhile listen!
