First, I’m still amazed that Weir had to self-publish this book. It’s amazing! Second, I hope he soaked whatever publisher won the bidding war for publishing rights pay through the nose.

Also check out Weir’s stories with his take on Sherlock Holmes. VERY clever! And yes, they’re on Audible as well.

Good blend of Ballard and the Bosches

The story seems less “fleshed out” than most of Connelly’s works. I guess it just seemed too short, really, and I would have enjoyed more of it, even though Colleen is as annoying as usual. Maybe there could have been some back story in what makes her so annoying, snoopy, and gossipy.

Herron is always great with a turn of phrase, with long sentences that make you wait for the payoff at the end. But you forgive him because the tension is delicious and mirrors the tension in the plot.

Mispronunciation of Main Character’s Name

How could the producer and the director (and the reader) not check how to pronounce the main character’s name? I’m also not clear how they didn’t ask the author. There are plenty of Agarwals in the US, and 5 million Agarwals in India, who could have clued them in. Getting a cringey mispronunciation every few minutes is extremely annoying and distracting. It sounded more like “a narwhal” than Agarwal.

Otherwise, I liked the story, at least during the times I was able to relax and enjoy the tale.

Well-written, well-acted, and very funny!

Well done! I wasn’t sure what to think of this going in, but it’s not just Felicia Say but a whole crew of clever people contributing to this audio comedy-drama. I hope to see a sequel!!!

Interesting performance of the book

I enjoyed this radio play, and I liked over 50% of the edits made to make this version of Ender’s Game match the plots of the sequels. For those of you who have not read the sequels, they are wonderful and enjoyable reading, but I think you should read the Ender’s Game book at some point because they can’t fit all the subtlety of the book into a much shorter radio play version.

On the other hand, those who have not read the sequels will enjoy listening to the play again when they’ve finished both the Ender and the Bean sequels.

While this is not the version I would recommend to introduce readers to the Ender’s Game world, I realize that getting people to listen to a play and then to a bunch of books is a big accomplishment these days, so hats off the the crew!

Excellent Audible Original!

Quite surprisingly good!

I am naturally suspicious of Sherlock Holmes rewrites or reboots or whatever we call these things these days. Most have little respect for the original material and are just looking for a lazy way to create a show.

This one is different. The love of and respect for the original stories is plain to see, and the fact that they made sure to get really good voice actors shows how much the creators cared about doing it right. I mean, anything with Phil LaMarr is going to be worth hearing/watching, right? And the more you know about the original Holmes stories, the more you’ll enjoy this recording.

This is definitely worth a listen for Holmes fans.

Fascinating tale of 17th Piracy in the Americas

Well-written and witty. Based on the journals of several pirates of the same crew, Born to Be Hanged relates the joys, the dangers, and the revelry of a crew of English pirates in the seas off the American coasts. The detail of the story is authentic and harrowing, and also happens to have formed the basis of Robert Louis Stephenson’s fictional Treasure Island. A jolly good time was had by … well, some at least.
