Fun beach read, a little bit too Jersey for me, but I grew up close enough and know it’s pretty accurate. Easy to keep going plenty of characters to like, love and hate.

Terrific exposure of myths and lies attributed to female sexuality, with good scientific and empirical evidence, but in a human way. Plenty to think about and helps me understand the woman in my life better. Now I hope she will listen too and we can go through the learning together. Could do without the soundtrack. Music sounded way too
Much like the musical response to sermons or readings in church. By the end of the book it was aggravating and distracting. She’s a good reader, and the narration was good, but music distracting. Although written predominantly for women, as a man, I found more than enough material to be worth the time invested.

Disappointed with the lack of any insightful or new ideas. Responsibility, Accountability, and Consequences. There is no magic solution.

Incredible life story told by the man who lived it. Another incredible American that does not get taught in the modern version of American history.

Thorough and credible. Striking catalog of the systemic bias and suppression present in today’s media. Even if you already knew this, Ari’s research and presentation of the magnitude and scale of the imbalance is striking. Well done

Not a regular consumer of Oprah’s material, though I respect and appreciate her contribution to many important topics and her success in bringing many important issues to light. The book does a good job of bringing anecdotes together with clinical work and connecting narratives to help multiple learners understand the lessons and alternative ways to think about dealing with the impact of trauma.

Where they lost me was in the discussion of Trauma Informed Care. Dr Perry went to great pains to discuss and explain that he didn’t like the phrase as it has been the subject of so much competing, and in some cases contradictory, unclear definitions. He went to lengths to try to specifically define what he thought it meant and how it should be used. But then he said that in any case, the only way care can be Trauma Informed is if it is Anti-Racist. To me that inserted a highly politicized and unclearly defined non-clinical description to a term that he was trying to provide clarity to. Kept me scratching my head.

The other challenge I found was with the alternating styles of narrative essay, signed off in each segment with either -Oprah or -Dr Perry, or fake dialogue that sounded like the most painfully scripted interview from Middle School public access TV. Oprah is a master interviewer, I expected a lot better here.
