Historia
In this groundbreaking book, New York Times bestselling author Steven Kotler decodes the mystery of ultimate human performance. Drawing on over a decade of research and first-hand reporting with dozens of top action and adventure sports athletes like big wave legend Laird Hamilton, big mountain snowboarder Jeremy Jones, and skateboarding pioneer Danny Way, Kotler explores the frontier science of “flow”, an optimal state of consciousness in which we perform and feel our best.

half a book should cost half as much
Revisado: 12-30-22
This is half of a book. At 2 hours long (the last 2 hours of fluff don't count, nobody likes paying for a podcast).
The book was great... the nickle-and-diming to get me to pay for it twice, not so much. I'll be asking for a refund on this one and paying for the final book as promised.

Dang, what an excellent story, adding another element (that we all kinda suspected) to an already loveable character. Well done.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Revisado: 05-24-21
Amazing story; expertly researched and written, performed with passion and good dose of humor. Entertaining and compelling from start to finish, it prompted a few extra trips around the block when I wasn't ready to hit pause.

Borrows the best aspects of everyone else
Revisado: 11-06-20
The space opera category is pretty saturated right now (Poor RC Bray must hardly see his family these days!), but here's a series that distills all the best aspects of the other sci fi series' into one engaging story line.
The quirky AI interactions of the Expeditionary Force series without the warmed-over plot.
The harrowing battle scenes (and quirky Star Wars tropes) of Galaxy's Edge with the 'ooh-rah' turned down to a reasonable level.
The vast scale of the Star Wars universe without the limitations set by other canonical works.
These books are familiar in a comforting way: fun, light, captivating escapism at it's best.

Historia
After saving the world many times, the Merry Band of Pirates have accepted the inevitable: Earth is doomed. All they can do is try to bring a few thousand people to safety, before vicious aliens arrive to destroy humanity's home world. No. There is one other thing they can do: hit the enemy so hard that the aliens will regret they ever heard of humans.

Historia
After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

How's the spin class going, Craig?
Revisado: 11-14-19
Bad news first: It does seem like the well of inspiration is running a little dry here. Clumsily and unapologetically rehashing the exact same plot of the last book (actual book, not the Homefront tragedy), Alanson pads the production by going into great detail about... nothing. It's easy to imagine him wandering around his house, desperate for inspiration, and latching onto the most mundane things in an effort to find something to write about. Spin class? Sure! The proper way to sign up for university courses? Why not! Recipes for hamburger patties? Fuck it, let's toss that in too! Sprinkle in some off-topic ramblings clearing up plot or logic holes from previous books, and voila, hours of background entertainment.
Good news: Perhaps the ending switches things up enough to inject some fire into the next 16 Exforce books?

Historia
After the latest mission of the starship Flying Dutchman, Earth is safe not just for a year, but for hundreds of years. The ship’s weary crew wonders what they will do with their lives in peacetime, but the enemy has other plans, and there is danger on the Homefront. Starring Zachary Quinto, R.C. Bray, Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, and everyone's favorite AI, Skippy the Magnificent, alongside a full cast. Includes plenty of pew-pew-pew, original sound composition, and maybe some singing by R.C. Bray.

Revisado: 07-12-19
Really proud that I powered through and finished this one. The cringe-worthy writing and production made me give up a couple of times, but in the end, I'm glad I finished it.
ExForce neophytes should probably skip(py) this lemon in an otherwise enjoyable (if a bit repetitive) series. I look forward to the story returning to its regular format and forgoing all the "special" effects and voice "talent". (Sorry voice actors, I know this wasn't your fault!)

Historia
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife's grave. Then he joined the army. The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding. Earth itself is a backwater.

The Vinyl Cafe... in Space
Revisado: 08-03-18
'Dave and Morley join the space force.' (Just try to un-hear Stuart McLean now). Decent story, written in Scalzi's typically flippant style, but without his usual attention to detail. Characters have some depth, though they don't stray far from stereotypes.
Has a happy ending though, so there's that!
