Excitement then boredom
Revisado: 11-19-24
Starts off good but becomes slow and monotonous, half way in and the story is going nowhere, keeps going over and over the same thing. I'm thoroughly bored.

Historia
Everyone has a story to tell. But does Janice have the power to unlock her own? She can’t recall what started her collection. Maybe it was in a fragment of conversation overheard as she cleaned a sink? Before long (as she dusted a sitting room or defrosted a fridge) she noticed people were telling her their stories. Perhaps they had always done so, but now it is different, now the stories are reaching out to her and she gathers them to her.

It took a while!
Revisado: 06-17-24
I picked this book because of the good reviews. The first seven chapters are very rhythmic, making them a little slow and tedious. Having read the rest of the book I understand why those chapters are like that (it's a reflection of the characters life). That aside, the book was actually very good once it got going. I'm glad I stuck with it.

Historia
Riverside Close is a picture-perfect community. The six exclusive and attractive houses are tucked far away from the noise and grime of city life, allowing the residents to enjoy beautiful gardens, pleasant birdsong, and tranquility from behind the security of a locked gate. It is the perfect idyll, until the Kentworthy family arrives, with their four giant, gas-guzzling cars, gaggle of shrieking children, and plans for a garish swimming pool in the backyard. Obvious outsiders, the Kentworthys do not belong in Riverside Close, and quickly offend every last one of the neighbors.

Wonderfully Satisfying
Revisado: 04-20-24
I absolutely loved this book. The mystery itself is complicated enough to keep you guessing, yet easy to understand. The characters are richly developed and so very, very, interesting. I don't want to talk about the plot itself because I don't want to spoil any of the mystery but I can say I enjoyed every minute of it and had it finished in one day.
Must also say they the narrator is awesome, brings the whole thing to life.
Can't wait for the next book.

Gripping from the beginning
Revisado: 10-19-23
I really loved it, it was long yet l wished it would continue for several more hours of enjoyment. The writing is incredibly engaging and thoughtful. it's so refreshing to read a mystery/ detective book that's not contrived or gimmicky. And the narrator brings all the characters to life. Can't wait for the next one.

Revisado: 10-12-23
As always I thoroughly enjoyed Chris's adventures while living in Japan. There were moments of sadness, joy and for me laughter. My only wish would be for it to be longer.
Thanks Chris, I needed a read to uplift my spirits and you delivered.

Boring, childish narration and just petty
Revisado: 10-27-22
Firstly, the narrators style had me thinking this was a child's book, sounding like a Disney reading for a 4 year old. But no, it is indeed an adult story. One that's fool of petty nonsense, the kind of thing you'd find jealous little girls squabbling over in the playground. I couldn't get through it all, even though it's a short story. left me feeling brain dead.
Just dreadful!!!

At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

Great ideas but bogged down
Revisado: 07-29-22
The concept was good, the narration was good but the story got bogged down with lots of small details. The reader doesn't need to know the exact lettering of every single Gene or the name and number of all the genes that effect certain illnesses. I love science in the books I read but this one meanders on with unnecessary details that don't add to the enjoyment of the story.
