Historia
The Man Without a Face is the chilling account of how a low-level, small-minded KGB operative ascended to the Russian presidency and, in an astonishingly short time, destroyed years of progress, making his country once more a threat to her own people and to the world.

written by an activist and not a scholar. several instances of factual misrepresentation. for a better look at contemporary russia i suggest stephen f cohen (princeton and nyu professor of russia studies)

Historia
The host of Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight offers a blistering critique of the new American ruling class, the elites of both parties, who have taken over the ship of state, leaving the rest of us, the citizen-passengers, to wonder: How do we put the country back on course?

i’m a traditional free-speech, anti-war liberal who has always had a healthy mistrust of the elites. but apparently now i’m a nazi or white supremacist or something.
tucker is a true patriot and perhaps the last clear thinker on the mainstream media. i don’t agree with him on everything, but i think he truly cares about finding the truth and about making the world a better place for everyone.
my main issue is that in his appropriate critique of the modern, liberal, institutionalized approach to environmentalism, he’s thrown out the baby with the bath water. i am convinced that humanity *is* disrupting delicate climate balances; it’s just that the liberal approach and solution is obviously idiotic. but maybe i’m wrong.
tucker if you’re reading this, you’re the fucking man and a great american.

Historia
War and Peace is one of the greatest monuments in world literature. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, it examines the relationship between the individual and the relentless march of history. Here are the universal themes of love and hate, ambition and despair, youth and age, expressed with a swirling vitality which makes the book as accessible today as it was when it was first published in 1869.

A Truly Great Book and a Truly Astounding Narrator

decent

i’d give this performance a 2 out of 3. his narration was solid, but his inflection and voices during the dialogues did not do it for me. the voices he gave were often annoying. especially the peasants, giving them a working class british accent. GODS THAT STARTED TO PISS ME OFF AFTER A WHILE. and the internal dialogue he gave many of the male characters was wispy and frail sounding. this narrator is clearly skilled and seemed like a nice enough guy, but i think we need a russian with hair on his chest and a thick russian accent to read this book.
war and peace as a story is long but overall pretty good. not among my most favorite pieces of fiction, but an important piece of literature and worth reading. in many ways it’s essentially a revisionist history of the napoleonic wars.
