I loved this book! Both educational and uplifting, Trevor Noah provides memories of growing up in South Africa right before and after the end of apartheid with startling clarity. I felt his love for his family, especially his mother, at every turn. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, the whole book is wonderful, but that LAST chapter is PHENOMENAL.

On a personal note, as a Black woman in America, this book stands as a testament to the fight for racial justice across the African diaspora. It highlights the resilience of men, speciifically Trevor himself, as he grapples with his own racial identity. The strength of his mother, the Black Queen, is an inspiration for all (Black) women: to define ourselves and live the life we choose, no matter what the circumstances. And in all things, PRAY!

I was already a fan of Trevor Noah's. Now I'm just more of one.

I almost didn't read this book because I thought I would feel inadequate about my own life. That's more about my insecurity, and I'm glad I got over it. Listening to Michelle's melodious voice chronicle the most important events of her life made me realize that she is a regular person, just like all of us, who has to make decisions about her life, adjust course sometimes, and keep moving on. Michelle is an example of the professional Black woman who has it all: brains, beauty, education, husband, and kids, and struggles to keep everything balanced. She has done so successfully, but there were times she even doubted herself.

I admire her strength and fortitude, her ability to support her husband's goals even if she had to suspend hers, and the love she has for her family and our country. Now that her husband's tenure is over, I'm glad she's taking her place back in the sun. This book is a must read for all the women out there who want to be the best they can be and think they fall short. This book encouraged me. I'm still "becoming", and so are you.
