Historia
The last thing Lizzie needs right now is a call from an inmate at Rikers asking for help - even if Zach Grayson is an old friend. But Zach is desperate: His wife, Amanda, has been found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their Brooklyn brownstone. And Zach’s the primary suspect. As Lizzie is drawn into the dark heart of idyllic Park Slope, she learns that Zach and Amanda weren’t what they seemed - and that their friends, a close-knit group of fellow parents at the exclusive Brooklyn Country Day school, might be protecting troubling secrets of their own.

very fun read
Revisado: 05-28-24
it has all the intrigue and backstabbing you love. My only thing holding me back from 5 stars was the ending. It worked, sure. But I think it was too convenient. everything unravels in the last 10 minutes. very good. I wish someone had figured it out sooner and was actively trying to hide it.

I am a mom, friend, wife that sits in church every week because I want my kids to, but I am not being spiritually fed. this book fed me. if that doesn't speak volumes, then what will? amazing! I was recommended this book by a non-religious friend, so anyone can read it.

I can't stop thinking about this book! Haunting!
Revisado: 07-27-16
What did you like best about this story?
I bought this as a daily deal and didn't pay much for it. I was sucked in pretty quickly to the lives and lies of all the people in this average town. The main character is fine enough to follow, but the best part is all the ways lives intersect. Also all the secrets make it impossible to stop listening. I actually had to hide in a hammock at the cabin and finish the last few hours.
Now that it is over, I am still haunted by it. I am still thinking of the characters and wanting more.
I will say, I might have enjoyed it because I am a female that loves the relationships the people have. My husband half listened to it and wasn't as into it as I was.His loss!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Everyone has secrets!

I don't like romance novels, but I liked this
Revisado: 12-31-15
This is not your typical romance. It is set in Texas in the late 1890s. I enjoyed the twist on typical "girl meets boy but doesn't like him and then they fall in love." This story has strong women, compelling back story, murder, intrigue, hard work, and romance. I enjoyed the real gentlemen in Pike's Run.
As an audio book, I have to warn you about the narrator. You have to get past the first line in a horrible accent. Then I put my book on 1.25 speed because I hate slow reading narrator. After that, it was better. I enjoyed her regular reading voice but disliked the character voices. I'm hoping that if more books from this author get turned into audio books the narrator will either tone down the accents or be different altogether.
This was a great read for a girl's weekend. We loved it on our long drives through hill country. Perfect!

Historia
Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

What did you like best about Raising Stony Mayhall? What did you like least?
The beginning was great and interesting to think about. I loved his time with the family.
Any additional comments?
The last third of the boon became painful to get through. I wish the author would have stayed focused on the family and built on the relationships in Iowa. That would have been better than the direction the book went.....It got weird.

fresh perspective on post zombie world.
Revisado: 06-25-15
I loved where the book was going in the beginning. We were on the edge of our seats and loved some fresh ideas about zombies. The characters were interesting and likeable. The last hour got a bit ridiculous. I liked the ending as it was unexpected. The characters became silly and annoying. This was during "crunch time". That's the only problem. Otherwise a great read for a zombie lover.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tell the Wolves I’m Home?
What the girls do the painting had me on the edge of my seat. It was imaginative and crazy. I liked the story line and the intimate glimpse into the start of the AIDS epidemic.

This is an awesome zombie book for teens and adult
Revisado: 12-27-14
What other book might you compare Rot & Ruin to and why?
I "read" Patient Zero and liked it as far as zombie books go. My husband and I listen to the books in our many travels across the country. I got Rot and Ruin for a trip from texas to vegas. This book was awesome. It was a whole new take on zombie stories. What would I compare it to? World War Z, maybe. It stretched your imagination and had a fresh perspective.
Any additional comments?
The story starts out a little slow with the main character being self centered and immature. Then the plot takes off, and it is great. Some parts were a little drawn out, but it kept us on the edge of our seats and awake the whole drive. That's the making of a great audio book for us.

Awesome story idea
Revisado: 01-26-14
What did you like best about this story?
Master vampires, end of the world, pixies, werewolves..it has it all and so much more. The story line is great with lots of edge of your seat action. The only down side was the length. It was 23 hours, and while I don't know what the author would cut out, it just got to be a little too lengthy. If you like a good monster book, this is a great one. The only other problem was the lack of development on the secondary characters. There was so much action and other world stuff, it was hard to keep some of the characters straight. Overall, a great read. We will probably read the next book in the series.
