Historia
When Rin aced the Keju - the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academies - it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldn’t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rin’s guardians, who believed they’d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

Gripping, Haunting, and Too Real
Revisado: 05-25-20
The horrors of war, the consequences of revenge aren't hidden here. The Poppy war is the first book I've read in a long time that has grabbed me by the collar and shook me into turning the next page. I'm fascinated with the Asian setting. I can't wait to read the sequel and see the tragedies and the consequences to come.

Inferno: Thirty-five year old Dante finds himself in the middle of a dark wood, in extreme personal and spiritual crisis. Priceless Read for All Christians
Revisado: 11-12-19
As a Catholic, Dante has begun to have a profound effect on me as I study and embrace my renewed faith after years as a self aggrandizing atheist with a self-entitled sense of adept philosophy. I do wish Audible hosted more great Catholic works. But I look forward to when they do.

Historia
Halmey Dz and her partner, Connla Kurucz, are salvage operators, living just on the inside of the law...usually. Theirs is the perilous and marginal existence - with barely enough chance of striking it fantastically big - just once - to keep them coming back for more. They pilot their tiny ship into the scars left by unsuccessful White Transitions, searching for the relics of lost human and alien vessels. But when they make a shocking discovery about an alien species that has been long thought dead, it may tip the perilous peace mankind has found into full-out war.

Irritating at Best
Revisado: 10-21-19
It often feels like they're throwing word salads at you for no reason. Like. I get it. You studied up on how certain technologies could exist. Doesnt mean you need to spill it on the page for the first 4 hours. The first 4 hours is mostly a list of all the tech and world building explained in grueling detail. Our black lesbian protagonist has a good head on her shoulders, and the book, I believe, was meant to defy the stereotype of black people and or lesbians needing to wrap those traits up as their entire identity. that was genuinely refreshing. I got the impression this was one of the authors first books. I would love to see this angle taken a few more novels down the road when she has the skill to do so.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Best Fantasy Book Ever
Revisado: 08-13-19
I stumbled upon Sanderson about 6 months ago when I wanted to read a book with a color-based magic system, I'm an aspiring fantasy writer and I checked it out. I had no idea Sanderson was capable of this. Truly the best fantasy book I have ever read. I've read many.

It all leads up to a finale unmatched for originality and audacity that will leave listeners shaking their heads in wonder, as if awaking from an amazing dream.

Sanderson was an accidental discovery. I thought I'd dislike the dark setting, Butni grinded through this series in 3 weeks. The author always keeps you guessing no matter how hard I tried to predict things. Going to love reading more of his series.

Historia
The Middle Ages harshly tested every aspect of human perseverance, imagination, and survival. Living conditions were squalid for almost everyone except the ruling elite, and most of the riches of Western culture were preserved in monasteries and on other continents. And into this setting came widespread famines, prolonged wars, and plagues that marked Europe's late medieval period as one of the most harrowing in recorded history.

A great beginning
Revisado: 01-03-19
This course is a great primer for the middle ages, but there is always more to read. Although I loved the professor, I had one criticism, and that was that he had a bit of a bias against men. Which may seem strange, but very common amongst the professor-types. Although I felt women were under-spoken of, as throughout every period women have a strong influence on society, they were sparingly mentioned, and the professor gave some very strange interpretations of works of poetry and writing from time periods as evidence of an ill-will against women, though I think this was mostly due to a lack of study in symbolism, and pretty easily amended through independent research. Although the welcoming to criticism made me give the course an extra star. The professor is a man, after all, and we're all free to our own opinions, I just find opinions to be a bit odious without first mentioning that something like that was just his personal interpretation, etc.

The culture of “safety” and its intolerance of opposing viewpoints has left many young people anxious and unprepared for adult life. Lukianoff and Haidt offer a comprehensive set of reforms that will strengthen young people and institutions, allowing us all to reap the benefits of diversity, including viewpoint diversity. This is a book for anyone who is confused by what’s happening on college campuses today, or has children, or is concerned about the growing inability of Americans to live and work and cooperate across party lines.

I'm in Gen Z. Fue IDW probably saved my life
Revisado: 10-31-18
Books and authors like these saved me from a great deal of nihilism, fathomless confusion, and purposelessness. I was a complete stereotype, now, I hardly spend a moment not doing something meaningful using the techniques hinted at in this book. This is a great primer for any lost souls in the younger gens who barely have a hint at how wrong our worldview is.
