I found intonation quite distracting
Revisado: 01-14-17
What did you like about this audiobook?
Not much
How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?
No
Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?
Not really, beginning is quite generic
What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?
I don't think that this was an appropriate choice for the material. MASSIVE rising and falling intonation every sentence made it INCREDIBLY hard to follow. I'm a native speaker and I can only imagine what this must be like for ESL learners. I looked up the narrator, and she has a nice voice, but it really sounds like something for a commercial or an announcement in an airport. When you're trying to listen for four hours it's just so incredibly distracting trying to follow dense information when the narrator goes up and down three octaves (exaggerating) every sentence. To me it seems like she doesn't really know that much about the material and she's just trying to read it in a professional, nice-sounding voice, which she certainly does, but it's definitely not easy to follow from a learning point of view. Also, since IELTS is typically used to study in the UK/Commonwealth, it makes sense to have a British narrator.
Do you have any additional comments?
I found the introduction to the book quite odd. For a book that explicitly states it's about studying for the IELTS it's strange that it generically refers to "language tests" throughout the beginning and not the IELTS, as if this part was copy and pasted from all of the company's books for other tests.
