Historia
Five years after the Battle of Waterloo, Sharpe’s peaceful retirement in Normandy is shattered. An old friend, Don Blas Vivar, is missing in Chile, reported dead at rebel hands – a report his wife refuses to believe. She appeals to Sharpe to find out the truth. Sharpe, along with Patrick Harper, find themselves bound for Chile via St. Helena, where they have a fateful meeting with the fallen Emperor Napoleon. Convinced that they are on their way to collect a corpse, neither man can imagine that dangers that await them in Chile…

How I hate that everything must come to an end!
Revisado: 10-13-24
Like all the books before, this was a well told story and a testament to Mr Cornwell’s art! Rupert Farley has done his usual stupendous job of narrating again. I will never think of Richard Sharpe or Patrick without hearing Mr Farley’s voice. Thank you for many hours of pleasure!

Historia
We are familiar with maps that outline all 50 states. And we are also familiar with the idea that the United States is an "empire", exercising power around the world. But what about the actual territories - the islands, atolls, and archipelagos - this country has governed and inhabited? In How to Hide an Empire, author Daniel Immerwahr tells the fascinating story of the United States outside the United States. In crackling, fast-paced prose, he reveals forgotten episodes that cast American history in a new light.

This is one of the best recordings I’ve ever heard. I learned things here that I didn’t know and was certainly never taught
Revisado: 08-28-24
I read voraciously and have a personal library of over 1000 titles. Even though history is one of my favorite subjects there were things in this book which i have neither read nor heard, I have lived through many of the moments herein described but have never thought of them with quite an overarching interpretation. Thanks Mr Immerwahr for giving me a new way to interpret the “news”.

Historia
Marie-Laure lives with her father in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where he works as the master of its thousands of locks. When she is six, Marie-Laure goes blind and her father builds a perfect miniature of their neighborhood so she can memorize it by touch and navigate her way home. When she is 12, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great-uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.

Track of where I was in the story. This one should be read although it was a great feast of listening.

It would be hard to review this excellent finish to an even better series
Revisado: 05-27-24
Having listened to every book in this series I would say that these are among the finest pieces of literature I’ve ever enjoyed. I especially enjoyed those narrated by Rupert Farley who used proper language and emphasis throughout the series. He carried the excitement through to the end! My only regret is that it is over.

Historia
Roy Adkins, with his wife, Lesley, returns to the Napoleonic War in The War for All the Oceans, a gripping account of the naval struggle that lasted from 1798 to 1815, a period marked at the beginning by Napoleon's seizing power and at the end by the War of 1812. In this vivid and visceral account, Adkins draws on eyewitness records to portray not only the battles but also the details of a sailor's life: shipwrecks, press-gangs, prostitutes, spies, and prisoners of war.

Sharpe's mission had seemed simple: capture a small unguarded French coastal fort, cripple Napoleon's supply lines, and retreat across the sea. But behind the lines, Sharpe's old enemy, Pierre Ducos, awaits Sharpe's arrival with a battalion of French soldiers and a vicious commanding general who keeps the scalps of his dead enemies as trophies.

Historia
It is 1810, and in Napoleon's determination to conquer Portugal, and push the British back to the sea, he sends his largest army yet across the Spanish frontier. But between the Portuguese border and Napoleon's seemingly certain victory are two obstacles; a wasted land, stripped of food by Wellington's orders, and Captain Richard Sharpe.

Excellent story, as usual, from the pen of Mr Cornwell
Revisado: 02-11-23
Another good story of Sharpe’s experiences on the Peninsula. I didn’t like this narrator and the story became confusing at times with its direction changes, but that is to be expected in the telling of three armies fighting. All in all it was an enjoyable listen.
