Historia
In the ancient city of Nineveh, on the bank of the River Tigris, King Ashurbanipal of Mesopotamia, erudite but ruthless, built a great library that would crumble with the end of his reign. From its ruins, however, emerged a poem, the Epic of Gilgamesh, that would infuse the existence of two rivers and bind together three lives. In 1840 London, Arthur is born beside the stinking, sewage-filled River Thames. With an abusive, alcoholic father and a mentally ill mother, Arthur’s only chance of escaping destitution is his brilliant memory.

History made present
Revisado: 02-18-25
I loved the style of writing. The story moves smoothly from ancient Mesopotamia to modern Middle East as three characters represent their times and their connections to water. Water itself is a character viewed from various disciplines. Each character’s journey is relevant to today, and thus to readers.

Grief’s Aftermath
Revisado: 12-08-24
Bostwick makes her characters relatable and her theme accessible. As she often does, she uses multiple key characters so the theme of grief is presented in some of its many facets and from different ages. These characters lives intertwine as each grapples with her grief and as each supports the other. Bostwick writes satisfying endings with the moving forward resolutions of each character.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Where does The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown - A 30-Minute Instaread Summary rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I don't rank it thusly because I don't think of it as a read, but as notes.
What other book might you compare The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown - A 30-Minute Instaread Summary to and why?
Cliff Notes since that is what information it covers.
Which scene was your favorite?
Not applicable.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it gives a clear overview of the actual book better if listened to all at once.
Any additional comments?
This is good for an overview, especially of a book you may need to know about, but don't have time to read.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

Believe
Revisado: 12-16-15
What made the experience of listening to Proof of Heaven the most enjoyable?
The author's sincerely in his reading and his own scientific background.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Proof of Heaven?
His need to share what he'd experienced.
What does Eben Alexander bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His sincerity.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I'm already a believer, so no extreme reactions. I do think his explanations are some of the clearest I've read.

For History Buffs
Revisado: 12-16-15
Where does Wolf Hall rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is an average listen because it requires so much prior knowledge to follow and the shifts of time aren't clear, even on the printed page.
Would you recommend Wolf Hall to your friends? Why or why not?
If you're a history buff of England you'll enjoy this counterpoint view of Henry VIII and his wives. It requires some prior knowledge of the time to follow the cast of characters and why this man's reign was so impactful and shocking, as were the coinciding religious times.
Which character – as performed by Simon Slater – was your favorite?
The main character was the best with nuances to assist understanding.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Certainly not. It's too long and far too complex for such a read unless you speed read with an amazing agility.
Any additional comments?
The cast of characters was helpful, but a period timeline would have helped even for one familiar with this era's history. Google one to have by your side for this trilogy. Also, the initial quotations are obscure without research. The author's insight or explanations for these haven't been found on-line either.
